KTAR Drivetime Formats-Changes

So today they are doing "traffic on the 9's", and music beds and teases in and out of the news blocks. Can a new sounder package be far behind? (Although it will take a lot more than that to pull them out of that ratings stuka-dive ) -30-

Sensory Overload at the Buckeye Media Hut! The Nurse and I are still trying to figure out all those useless weekend traffic updates about someone having a flat tire along the San Tan freeway. And then there's that screwy contest where the Men In Secret Underwear pay you more money if no one else is listening to KT'R ???

Traffic on the nines?Bring back traffic on the sixes, I can't wait an extra three minutes!Oh wait, with Deputy Dan it's mostly "west side/west side" traffic anyway,so...never mind!Now I remember why I flip over to the traffic twins on 55/FYI, even if Ihave to endure their early morning talkmeister. He would want me tomention his name...And speaking of Paul Harvey-isms, where is he on the new KT'R morning musical clock? I didn't hear him anywhere between 0630-0645 today (he had been at 0637).Also, for the brief period I listened today (0625-0645) it appeared that Mr. Edhas been deemphasized a bit. No Ed in the 0629 trfc/WX combo (WX info readby the anchor) and a while later it was just a very short recorded drop. Is henot live anymore a couple times an hour in AMD?

For a bunch of guys who hate KTAR, you all sure listen a lot. The listeners who like them couldn't tell you quarter of what you guys know.

Listening to KTAR only makes me stronger. I'm into pain.(I listen in between my hundreds of hours of old Hendrie on MP3)

I don't think it's hate...it's trainwreck addiction!!!Funnier than reality TV ;D and almost as painful as "Metal Mania Month" on VH1 Classic. 8)

Thanks Joel, for the end-around compliment!I don't think we hate KT'R--except maybe Akbar ;)--we just want it tostop treading water and find itself again. Reach its former "peak" as it were.However, toaster talk redux from 9-noon isn't the answer (but then neitherwas Tony Snow).I will give KT'R kudos for a much more news-intensive push during AMD, or atleast from what I've heard the past two days in the 0630 half hour (aka the0630 and 0645 quarter hours). Heck, at 0630 it used to be ABC update, two(two!) local stories and then out...stopset/Deputy Dan/Mr. Ed from theAudio Vault/Good Morning Americans!...BTW, Paul Harvey appears to have been re-slotted from 0637 to 0650.

KT'R has been on a freefall since KFYI moved to 5~Fifty and the Men In Secret Underwear know it. While they're scrambling to shore up the damage caused by Hurricane Emmis, the station still lacks purpose and a passion for what it's doing. We hope TMISU are more committed to KT'R than they were to Sunny 97! Talk about pre-mature evacuation :eek:Here's a free ride in the '76 Gremlin Levi's Special to anyone who can prove us wrong.
::) :eek: ;D :D :p :-* :) ::) :eek: ;D :D :p :-* :) ::) :eek: ;D :D :p :-* :)

It constantly amazes me how TAR gets beat by Barry "clap clap" Komando. He literally phones in his shows and the best TAR has is Heidi and Simonds and McBland?At this point they could just go to an all-polka format and be more interesting.Who is in the McBland group today? I'll venture a guess: another KTAR host, a chef, someone from the Diamondbacks, and a TV weatherman.I know it will be scintillating and controversial. ::)

I know it will be scintillating and controversial.You are soooooo psychic, Legend City! The Friday McBland Group consisted of: EJ Montini, 80's style lib writing for a dying major market McNewspaper Chris Corragio, singing sportscaster for Wallace & Ladmo TV5 Skip Rimza, former goofball Mayor running for goofball Secretary of StateNurse Jeff nearly passed out from this all star lineup. The previous hour featured Sean McLaughlin, weather guesser for the #3 cable network & former Mc12 weather guesser. And to think all this could have been Bill Austin's if only he didn't answer Jerry Ryan's phone call!We can only imagine how difficult it must be for the KT'R PD to ask Pat McBland not to be Pat McBland all the time :eek:

Have you noticed Skip's "Special olympics" campaign signs? :DI forgot to mention that Pat always has either Skip, former mayor Johnson, or the goofball that is in now.No famous chef today, guess Pat will have to buy dinner tonite. Ed Phillips must have been busy too.At least Bill Strauss did something different, he would take interesting callers and bring them in once a week.Next week: Michael Bidwell, Mary Jo West, Ed Phillips, Larry Gaydos, and Eddie Mathney book it!

You mean Mayor Phil and his light rail folly? Nothing like streets being torn upfor years for another boondoggle into downtown Phoenix.

One or two well-placed on-air mentions of P.F. Chang's China Bistrowill take care of that. ;D

He misused the term "erstwhile" twice today, referring to his producer, Mitch (with the pallindromic monicker) and his listeners..."Erstwhile" means "former.." Was this a Freudian foreshadowing of his fate? (I think he might have meant "eclectic???")

That criticism of KTAR as doing "West Side/West Side Traffic," which is repeated here endlessly, kind-of bugs me, because Detour Dan gives plenty of East Valley info. Being from the west valley, it seems to me like the _east_ valley gets the emphasis.
Gee, maybe he has the right balance after all! :)

Being from Buckeye, Nurse Jeff and I LOVE Westside Traffic. What we don't understand is why Detour Dan is puking so much these days ??? Could it be the rough air is bouncing him around in that small plane, or thoughts of hearing the next McBland Group :eek: Greg Shulte is the Official KT'R Pukemeister...no need for a wannabe!
