KTAR Rates

Has KTAR raised their rates since they started simulcasting on FM? The audience should be larger, but maybe not much.

Well speaking of rates......Is CC giving discounted rates to electronics stores to run HD radio ads? Seems like I hear a ton of ads for them and can't imagine that the consumer demand for them is that high, but if CC is giving them a discounted rate, then it would make sense to advertise them. A win/win for advertiser and CC

Member radio groups of the "HD Radio Alliance" are required to air these ads whether the group has stations with HD on the air or not (I notice that CBS's Phoenix stations are running them, although none of their stations are on the air with HD at this time). I suspect they run on the "lowest unit cost" schedule and have financial backing from the hardware manufacturers and retailers.

Re: HD Radio Alliance

HD Radio Alliance deal is ALL at nc and are expected to air. Members (regardless whether they are broadcasting in HD) agree to air "x" number of :60's, x number of :30's and x number of :10's. Ironically this digestion of forced units mirrors the CC clock, so it becomes a real challenge for stations that operate a "units" clock where (1) :30's are not common and (2) puts artificial pressure on remaining inventory to generate the revenue needed to hit revenue budgets. They skirt the "political window" issue due to these units being considered "promotional inventory." Ultimately they still sound like a commercial and overall add clutter and headaches for most PD's and Sales Managers.
