KTAR sound

A few months ago, KFYI switched on their HD and the over-air signal sounded muddy. Now, maybe it's just me or my car, but now KFYI sounds very clear and it's KTAR that sounds muddy - just the opposite of the way things were a few months ago.Did KFYI tweek some things, and did KTAR just fire up some HD equipment at 620?Just wunnerin...

KTAR and KMVP are now running their HD signals (although KTAR has been intermittent). KFYI still is as well, and has for about a year now. Maybe they finally found the "sweet spot" for the audio.

Re: KTAR/KFYI sound

Has 55/FYI been on night power (1 kw) during the day today? They were sounding weaker than KT'R, which I noticed whileflipping between 550, 620 and 94.5 around 0630, 1200 and 1600.550's IBOC has also been off, based on no hash on the secondadjacent and their delay being only :07 (language) rather than:16 :)07 language + :09 IBOC).Meanwhile at 1200 I noticed KT'R was about :16 late with theABC/I TOH news, so they were apparently IBOC-ing for at leastpart of the day.

To my ears, when KTAR runs IBOC, they sound like crap. And so does KFYI, although some of their processing seems to make up for it. But since I even hear some of the IBOC hash on the main signal, I wish they'd do us a big favor and turn it off, writing it off as a bad investment, since it makes the already troubled AM band noisier, more delayed, and muddier. KTAR's seems to be off most mornings, and during daytime airings of most D-Backs games.
(Kind-of silly to bring your radio to the park and hear plays described 15 seconds later!)
Listening to Femino the other day, his voice was hard to recognize, the audio was _that_ muddy. If it needs that much work, turn it off and send it back.

at least turn the hd off until ktar goes nine two three.

i don't think the three or four people with hd receivers will mind.

the first time i heard ktar's anlalog while running hd, i thought 620 lost their processing and broadcasting low wattage.

620 hd sounds awesome though.

send the ibiquity back to manufaturing for modifications! ..ktar got jipped.

From what I hear , the problem has to do with the BE digital xmtr that Bonneville bought for KTAR (and KMVP) ......seems that the folks at BE "forgot" to mention that little glitch that makes the KTAR processing incompatable with the BE in full digital mode. They are currently working on the fix, but until then ktar's listeners get to enjoy the result.

(which in some ways is better than the ultra-flat, bacon cooking -in-the -background KMVP signal )

With all the hash between KFYI & KT'R, Nurse Jeff and I can no longer enjoy Dan Babbidge on KSAZ out of Marana. Too bad if you never caught his act - a classic ;D

Doc, you should move the Media Hut over to the 'Tuke (although come to think of it, trailers aren't allowed here ;D) as the Giant 580 comes in loud and well, fair-to-muddy. It's AM after all. I can enjoy (enjoy?) the antics of Dancin' Danny Babich and his Dead Air Disco every Saturday morning at 11.

Hey Odies Fan (with apologies for BJ Hunter on KOO fm), it's Dan Babich INTERNATIONAL. What a trip..and what a bummer all that IBOC hash is messin' up our reception here in Buckeye  Even if we could move the Media Hut to the Tuke, the Nurse and I don't think the trailer hitch on the Gremlin is up to it! ;) ;) ;)
