KTAR vs FSNAZ and ASU Football

Tried watching the ASU-Stanford game last night on FSNAZ but FSN's announcers and audio sucked as usual. Flipped the audio over to KTAR and immediately noticed radio was 10-15 seconds ahead of TV on the play-by-play. Consistently about one play ahead.

Whyizzat? ???

Satellite delay, digital delay--probably a combo of both.

Even if you're watching in SD on analog cable, it's probably
delayed to synch up with the digital transmission. Is ASU
HD on FSN?

I will give Sports Parking Lot 620 credit for turning I-CRAP
off during (at minimum) home games PBP, primarily for fans
at the stadium with radios.

Same thing yesterday during the Dbacks/Dodgers game on
the Fox Network--the play was over on KT'R by the time
you saw it on channel 10.

FSNAZ is SD on DirecTV at my place.

So you've got lagtime on the raw backhaul to FSNAZ/FCSP/FSNHouston/wherever, lagtime on the broadcast to FSAZ's bird, AND lagtime on the re-trans back to the D* sat.

Radio likely only has an ISDN line back to the station, so little or no perceptible lagtime whatsoever.

That'll make a difference.

I thought it was lag time but didn't think it would be as much as 10-15 seconds.

KTAR used to delay broadcasts of road games to "line up" with the TV feed. Not sure if that is still the case. Home games have always been aired in real-time.

With so many different ways for the folks back home to get the games fed to them and all the varying lengths of time it takes for the signals to reach those homes, I don't even think it's possible to sync up to more than just a chunk of them -- and an even smaller chunk when the game is broadcast on a terrestrial station, to boot (OTA analog and OTA digital and cable analog and cable digital and sat analog and sat digital and FIOS analog and FIOS digital signals would only sync up by some cosmic accident).

Too bad. KTAR does a much better job than FSN. It's a shame they can't use the radio guys on TV. FSN is like watching a high school broadcast.

It's all about $$$

If someone has the $$$ they are allowed to do what they wish.
Where is the NCAA in this process??? ??? ::) :'(

After watching the last ASU game on TV, I think I will stick to just KTAR. Not only did ASU stink, but the play-by-play was awful as well. KTAR does a solid job of play-by-play for ASU games. That and I will save my HD TV from flying object...I tend to throw things when ASU plays like a HS football team.

My local high school is not ranked currently but is 3-0 against quality opponents.

My local university is not ranked (anymore) and is 2-1 against fluffy opponents.

Was really looking forward to the ASU-Jawja game this weekend but maybe now not so much. :-[

But....keeping the thread on-topic.....I WILL listen to the game on radio.
