KTAR's Dilemma (It IS raining where you are)

Biggest nastiest storm in months, biblical proportions of hail and rain.

But, its Telethon Time! So endless vamping for a worthy cause and no endless vamping about all the water.

Murphy's law?

Out yonder in Fashionable South Tempe we've had, by latest count, five or six separate storms today with very heavy rain, hail and wind. Earlier in the afternoon we had about 20 minutes of non-stop thunder - I've been in Arizona most of my life and I've never heard continuous thunder like that. My dogs are having heart attacks and I'm wondering whether I can sell the bio-fuel now growing in my pool.

BTW, I thought "vamping" required the....uh...."assets" of a female?

Not too much different than if there was a heavy rain storm on "off-peak overnights"--
where you get canned news from KT'R.

I just realized this telethon is a simulcast on both KT'Rs (92.3 and 620). Why?
It's not a Cardinals game. ;D

While a radio telethon for a worthy cause really is a good thing, do we need it 2 days in a row on 2 stations?

Honestly, what can be said on day 2 that can't be said on day one.

And its not like we have Jerry Lewis self destructing and making racial slurs and screaming at the band leader for playing over his lines, and Sammy and Dean are long gone.

Perhaps this would be a good time to bring back Peso E. Dollar to sing about MJ Hearst Hambeans?

(very obscure reference for the natives...)

Is it raining where Childrens' Hospital is?

Speaking of "canned," I could not help but notice some of those celebrity testimonials were repeated from last year's (Glenn Beck's in particular.) Wow. Can you imagine if Jerry tried pulling that with the MDA?

Tell me more about Peso Dollar. Did he have a band? What channel, 5? Did he do spots for used cars?

You've woken up a few brain cells, and I need more to fill in the details.

Since I was at the pool the whole time, I missed everything that happened on KTAR yesterday.

...Oh, and when I got back home from the pool, You already know what station I was listening to. ;D

Would that be KZON because of their great rhythmic sound and Lady La? ;)

During the storm of the century, I was listening to the non-stop storm watch coverage on 1440 KAZG. Edd "Kookie" Byrnes and Lesley Gore had severe weather updates from the Bill Johnson's Big Apple studios every 10 minutes on the 5's. Detour Dion was high in the sky above the severe weather in the Sugar Bowl Traffic Plane looking at the fallen power lines over I-17 and the flooding on Indian School Road. But, without warning, the storm team coverage promptly ended at 6:00 P.M. without a legal ID or formal sign-off! ;D

Most ironic was KTAR's 100,000 watt flame-thrower (Mac: That's because we're the biggest station in the valley) being knocked off the air during the storm/telethon. When the transmitter came back up, I could hear quivering in Mac y Gaydos voices as they knew it was raining in multiple locations, but were powerless to ask anyone where it might be raining and then reporting on said rain.

In all seriousness, though, my hats off to KTAR/Bonneville for raising so much money for PCH. Well done!

That's too bad since a couple of tornadoes developed and destroyed anything in its path except drive in movie screens after 6pm... but it was this morning and by the time it happened, they were back in full effect with the active weather reports.

That's actually what I was wanting to add in - after I had already turned off my computer this morning when I went to sleep at 7:30am. Thank goodness the quoting option was invented for me to use conveniently.
