KTAR's Doug Ramsey let go

Doug was told his position as Capitol Correspondent is to be eliminated. Thus, a decades-old commitment tby KTAR to covering the state legislature is over.

Doug is a very good reporter and a good guy. Not only has he worked at KTAR, but he spent many years at KJZZ and the original KOY.

Is this how the "news leader" considers covering state government or is nobody interested in what their government is up to?

I will be curious to see how the master blogger spins this one.

Kind of the same topic:

Heard a taped report from Bob McClay today and his voice sounded weak and warbled. Did anyone else catch this?

Nope. Any gun shots on tape? ;D

And to think the only thing about their coverage one could
gripe about used to be that marginal-sounding 5 kHz local loop
between the Capitol building and the KT'R studio. But now...

Hey Russ--who's gonna cover the Guv and Legislature? I was
going to suggest Glenn Beck, but then I realized all the stories
he'd file would be six hours old. ;D

i hope to hear doug on the valley's true "news leader", kjzz.

Doug is commited to excellence and is a true pro. But he is first a good reporter. Could his salary be what they wanted to eliminate, more so than the Capitol reporting?

BINGO! Nurse Jeff and I predicted that TMISU would be throwing bodies overboard after their change to a KFWhyEye copycat on FM. Think about it: how many newspeople ($$) does KT'R-FM need after 8:30am? The large staff is only needed for AMD, then after that it's about as vacant as a Gremlin showroom! ;D

I figured after the Master Blogger jettisoned Ded Simons and the food budget for Sven and Rabbit, he might be able to afford a large news staff. Apparently that was not the case! ::)

Honestly, the only people that notice these things are folks in the business/on message boards. I sincerely doubt that the average folks listening to KTAR are standing around the water cooler saying "I can't believe that they fired the capitol reporter!"

KTAR covers local stories that KFYI doesn't, KFYI covers some local stories that KTAR doesn't - the news is essentially the same on both stations, except one (KTAR) has a few more bells and whistles--I actually like their TOH/news intro--but really local news covered on the 3 rated news/talkers (KFYI, KTAR, KKNT) is basically the same.

I think people on this board have about beaten that horse to death about "This news staff is larger, this one isn't", when in all practicality, they spend 6 minutes an hour on news total... does it matter if you have 20 people or 6? The answer, not really.

You have a valid point, but KTAR made such a big deal about providing the most comprehensive/best news coverage in the valley, with the largest news team. To date, KTAR dropped its Noon, afternoon news and now its capital reporter. Sure, we might be the only ones talking about it, but I'm sure KTAR's listeners who liked the Noon and PM news are scratching their heads as well.

KTAR started out as a clone to sister-station KSL, and is now turning into KFYI-lite.

KFWhyEye-Lite? More like a mirrored image.

As the Nurse and I've been saying for some time now, KT'R-FM has morphed into a copy cat version of KFWhyEye on FM. What the Master Blogger once said he wouldn't do, he now does. The line-up has improved since the departure of McBland, NoonSnooze, Paul Harvey and Ded Simons, but it STILL sucks hind teet to KFWhyEye's. What Nurse Jeff and I don't understand is why the Master Blogger continues to poke fun at his competitor while he's copying just about everything about them.

We suspect there were plenty of damp pants on Central Thursday afternoon when Glenn Beck had El Rushbo on his show. Bet TMISU couldn't help but wish they had talkradio's 900lb gorilla on 92~Three!

KFYI-Lite because Ann Karlo, Mac and GAYdos don't discuss politics, they discuss issues. ;D

McPublic reported this on Sunday. Now, no local radio station is covering the capitol.

The Nurse and I were surprised anyone covered the legislature as long as they did. Talk about not passing the "who cares?" test. As we said earlier, KT'R-FM is no longer the News Heavyweight and doesn't need that many reporters tripping over themselves. Look for more belt tightening on Central. Happy Holidays from TMISU :(
