KTBU ch. 55 is becoming more relevant

I applaud CH. 55 in Houston for becoming a real Indy in Houston. It appears that they will expand their relevant schedule (no infomericals). They will pipe in syndie news show The Daily Buzz from 6-9, startin 8/1 with local inserts with Roseann Rogers "The Buzz Lady". Of course they had nothing but a 30 low budget kids E/I show before this, surrounded by the infamous paid programming. And their website says they are also getting Star Trek:TNG, The Hills from MTV and Deal on No Deal from KTXH. They already have Cheers, Frasier, Married...with Children and classics (Fantasy Island, Hawaii 5-0). Also have several local shows, a Jazz Show "Red Cat Live" from the jazz cafe, Postcards From Texas, which is a very good program, and of course Sports Off-Center and HSSL (High School Sports Live).....51 without RTV is forgettable, and when will 57 change to something else? Don't they have new owners yet? Again kudos, ch. 55.

Good to see them growing, esp in this economy. Guessing the local inserts from Roseann will be advertiser-driven (think $$$) rather than local news. Still, far better than infomercials. Adding the Daily Buzz will leave them with "real" programming from 6 a.m. to midnight. That number could go even higher depending on what they do with their other new acquisitions in the fall. 55 is a wreck.

55, when it debut in 1998 known as "the tube" had a programming schedule from 4:30a til 1a. They had alot of great classics which after the station was sold off from the Osteens and to America One gradually got away from a full schedule.

I remember when this station debut it was a good little tv station showing such titles as:

Hogans Heroes, the Lucy Show, Matlock, Beverly Hillbillies, Alfred Hitchcock, Family Ties, Bosom Buddies, Perry Mason, Simon & Simon, Hart to Hart, I Love Lucy, Andy Griffith, Benson, Welcome Back Kotter, LaVerne & Shirley, Denace the Menace along with Star Trek: TNG which you stated will be returning was just a sample of the shows they had at the time.

Now, it looks like it could be making a semi-comeback. I watch some of the shows still but half are not really worth for my attention. I'm happy with the addition of the SEC Football and High School Football Game of the week (which was on the schedule last year as well). They also have the Kevin Sumlin show, I'm a Houston Cougar fan and season ticket holder and therefore enjoy this show tremendously.

TV-51 on the other hand is a total joke. What's up with their signal? Bueller, Bueller? I may call them again this week and see if they can shed any light on their transmitter problems. I wonder if Retro TV is ever gonna get here? Does their sister station in Dallas have it yet?

KAZH should make a change but won't IMO and with that I'm done.

55 is what I would think as good as it will get to become like an "old-timey" indy.....it's an indy for today's tv. I don't care for too much there, but love the fact they seem to be local focused. I really loved those old shows...Remembering that All in the Family, The Munsters, The Addams Family, Rawhide and Leave it to Beaver were there also..... maybe worse case scenario they come back on the weekends or overnight....

Both the Houston and Dallas facilities are running with reduced power due to what Johnson Broadcasting cites as ``Extraordinary Circumstances''. The company is in the midst of bankruptcy procedures and both the Houston and Dallas facilities had the additional complication of moving from an out-of-core channel to in-core facilities vacated by a competitor. At the earliest, they estimate October or November 2009 to build out the full facilities.

And Retro TV is not yet on in Dallas either.

This really doesn't surprise in the least but would you explain the above please?

Prior to the 12 JUN 2009 transition date, KNWS was operating on channel 52 and KLDT was on 54.

The ``out-of-core'' channels are 52-69, which were no longer allocated for full-power television as of that. Consequently, both of the Johnson stations had to move to some slot within the ``in-core'' channels of 2-51.

Complicating matters was that the final DTV channel for both the Katy and Lake Dallas facilities was one that was already occupied by an analog station. On the transition date, KNWS had to wait for KTMD to vacate channel 47 and KLDT had to wait for KXTX to vacate 39.

It would be nice to see KTBU back on DirecTV. That way they'd be really relevant.

Finally, The Daily Buzz is coming to Houston. I saw it in Dallas once, pretty laid back and cool to watch. And im glad Deal or no Deal is coming to 55 as well. I didn't think it looked right on KTXH in the first place

Am i the only one that thinks KTXH isn't what it used to be about 9 or 10 years ago??

Yeah, there's a little known law that says a company cannot own two stations in the same market that are in the Top 4 in Ratings and Revenue. That's why KTXH's programming lineup is considerably weaker than KRIV's. And you may notice that with most duopolies.

Slight correction: At least 1 of the 2 stations in a duopoly can't be in the Top 4 at the time the deal is sealed. After everyone has signed on the dotted line, that's no longer the case. When KTXH was owned by Paramount, they spent money on sports and good syndie offerings. The Marketing was also much better. Now that they're co-owned with KRIV, Fox is, of course, going to put all the best stuff on 26 and leave the dregs for 20. It'll be interesting to see if anything goes from 26 to 20 this fall with KRIV picking up 'The Office' in syndication and expanding the morning news to a fifth hour.

Deal or No Deal has been on 55 for some time at 6pm nightly. That means its been on 2 Houston stations.
