KTBU Channel 55 No Longer On DirecTV

Anyone know what the deal is behind KTBU Channel 55 no longer being available on DirecTV? It just says "Channel 55 is no longer available". It is still on my friend's cable system. I was just wondering why they were dropped from Direct?!

Nothing on their website about it. It's a shame as this is Houston's only decent indie (51 has gone virtually all-infomercial). Do the Osteens still own a piece of the station?

I don't believe the Osteens are part of KTBU anymore. If I had to take a guess I would say KTBU was pulled from Directv because they failed to provide retransmission consent.

As a purchaser of time on 55, it was explained to me as a disagreement over money. And the 2 parties were very far apart from agreement. In the big picture, DirecTV represents a very small portion of their viewership.

The ball is in DirecTV's court, if you want it back, call DirecTV.

BTW, 55 was sold the the holding company of America One about 3 years ago.

In this economy you'll see a lot of stations playing hardball with cable and satellite trying to maximize those revenue streams.

It may be a small portion of their viewership, but shouldn't those demos matter as those with DirecTV most likely have more disposeable income available to purchase advertisers' products? Their overall viewership is tiny and if I were in charge of sales, I would certainly run a cost-benefit analysis of what those additional viewers, no matter how small, would bring. I have DirecTV and now that they are off there is a less than zero percent chance of them ever reaching if you are an advertiser with a product I might want.
