KTCK Versus WFAN, New York

I have listened to WFAN, New York, online and they put KTCK, the ticket to shame locally. WFAN has a much better group of professional sports talk hosts than anyone that I have ever heard on the ticket. The WFAN talk hosts also do a better job of sticking to sports topics rather than going off on a number of idiotic rants about nothing. With internet giving everyone more choices, local radio is going to have to do better than the ticket which I think is an incredibly boring, amateurish sports talk station.

Apples to oranges my friend. Please compare WFAN to ESPN 103.3 and get back to us, OK. KTCK is not a true sports station. Sports may be the base of the subject matter but it is guy talk plain and simple with a lot of sports thrown in.

It seems to me that The Ticket has two goals: Cover sports and make guys laugh.

I'm not a gambler, so the laughter part isn't a turn off for me.

Re: KTCK And ESPN 103.3 Versus WFAN, New York

I also think that WFAN is a far superior station to ESPN 103.3. The ratings and billings in each market also bear it out. WFAN, especially in afternoon drive with Mike and the Maddog, pull very good numbers. WFAN is one of the highest billing radio stations in the U. S. In comparison, ESPN 103.3 numbers and billings are not outstanding in comparison to the rest of the Dallas market. The talent at WFAN is also far superior to ESPN 103.3. WFAN's talk show hosts just seem to have more sports knowledge, personality and energy. ESPN 103.3 does serve one purpose, it puts me to sleep.

mmm LET'S SEE.KTCK -Dallas..WFAN-New York. Could it be..<gasp> that these two stations are doing something that was done well before de-regulation and consolidation, playing to their regional audiences? My Gawd, whoever heard of such a thing?
So they both give an image of a sports station, but talk about other macho issues? Heaven forbid. I haven't heard Don Imus give the baseball scores and breakdowns on WFAN. Someone needs to talk to him.;)

The talent pool is much larger in NYC. Unions are in full force in NYC. More money brings in better management, programming talent and engineering.

There's a world of difference in NYC and Dallas just as there is a world of difference in Dallas and WACO.

When I talk to my friends we discuss the Rangers, the Mavs, golf AND things like movies, our kids, our jobs, our wives the weekend at the lake, etc. If all they wanted to talk about was sports we wouldn't talk long. I see the same complaint about The Ticket on here all the time. Would it help to re-image the station as "sports talk and more" or sum such?

Oh, sweet. I've been wondering how I can listen to news on non-local teams I don't care about from people with grating accents.

The other thing to consider-
The Fan can talk:
Yankees, Mets,
Rangers, Devils and Islanders,
Giants and Jets
Nets, Knicks,
In their immediate vicinity, and have a signal (that I picked up just outside of Boston last year) that probably hits another half dozen pro teams marketing areas (i.e Boston to Philly)

In addition, don't they carry the Mets, Giants, Nets and Devils? FOUR pro teams? That's an ass-load of programming hours 'they' don't have to fill...Not to mention all the interview shows, etc that those generate- easy to be all sports when you've got double the amount of sport teams to talk about...
