KTDY 99.9 heard in North Alabama

I was recording another dx on 99.9 when another station started coming in over it, turns out, that other station was KTDY from Lafayette LA, over a distance of 448 miles, My best catch to date!

Edit: 9-10 apparently it wasn't over yet
Today Pensacola stations were making it up here
today's catches
3:46p... Antenna: SSE... 92.3 WLWI I-92 Montgomery AL
4:23p... Antenna: South... 98.7 Cat Country 98.7 Pensacola FL
4:27p... Antenna: SW... 98.7 Mix 98.7 Jackson MS
(This next one would probably have given me a heart attack if cumulus hadn't flipped them in 2000, being that it was my most favorite station of all time up until then)
4:36p... Antenna: South... 100.7 WJLQ Q 100 Pensacola FL
5:43p... Antenna: South... 92.9 93-BLX Mobile AL

Q 100 has been blasting in since I first picked it up and totally obliterating the local translator on 100.7, it is even coming in on my walkman which has a hard enough time picking up some of the locals on a normal day.

Cat and BLX just came and went no other sign of them

All of the Bham signals are coming in like local, 99.5 obliterating the local translator on 99.5 as well, the X is even coming in loud and clear, WENN is overpowering the local 3kw 105.5 (WYTM Fayetteville TN) Z 93.1 from Gadsden was coming in under all the noise from WHRP for a while, 99.9 the fox which is what I was recording when KTDY made an appearance has been in like a local all day, WTXT comes and goes because the local translator on 98.1, WRTR made an appearance yesterday over the usually strong signal of WNRQ from Nashville, 94.1 WZBQ has been overpowering WXQW most of the day, heard some spanish station on 107.9 around 10 saturday night
It's been an exciting weekend here, and these weren't even the best conditions either
Edited by BamaWOLF on 10/10/05 01:42 AM.

Good stuff, indeed. I was getting a lot of the same things here in St. Clair Co. late 10-8 and the morning of 10-9.

Newly logged 2300-0100 10-8/10-9:

93.3 WHRP Tullahoma, TN "Power 93.3"(Are they using Newmarket as the COL yet? Hadn't been able to pick it out from under WVFJ and WGMZ splatter before, but it was local good this time)
99.9 WSMS Artesia, MS "The Fox"(Brief and faint, but during the legal ID)
96.1 WXFL Florence, AL "Kix 96"(Also local good, stomped on 96 Rock from Atlanta)

0900-1000 10-9:

93.3 WSYE Houston, MS "Sunny 93.3"
92.9 WTUG Tuscaloosa, AL
101.7 WBEI Reform, AL "B101.7"
98.1 WTXT Tuscaloosa, AL
106.7 WWZD New Albany, MS "Wizard 106.7"
97.5 WABB Mobile, AL
maybe WMC-FM Memphis under Rock 99 splatter
If WZBQ carries "Backtracks USA", I was probably hearing it and not WSTR.

After the opening moved to the south, WABB was the only new logging, although I heard previously logged WRWA and WOOF also. All the west AL/east MS stations were clear as a bell, and WABB was pretty solid.

I was getting WRSA, WAHR, WZYP, and WDRM with local clarity the whole time, which is rare here. I can hear something there 24/7/365, but it's usually not something one wants to listen to . . .

"Backtacks USA" airs on WXQW Meridianville (Huntsville) on 94.1. It's a pretty weak station, although I can get them sporadically here in NW Alabama. It's more likely you heard them on WXQW than WZBQ, which is a helter-skelter CHR.

Finally got one of the WXQ duo! Nice. I've gotten a lot of DX while trying to catch WWXQ on 92.5. Always figured I'd get it first, since that's a more open channel here in NE Alabama and it's the closer one.

WXQW is indeed very weak, only 240w or something like that, It's very spotty here at my house even with the outdoor antenna, yet it still seems to always come in better than the 5kw WTAK, lol
______________
