Why can't The Beat, KISS, and/or other stations do something similar to this?

Most likely because they don't want to pay for it and all of those subsequent undisclosed legal costs created by those unruly elements who are unable to conduct themselves in a civilized manner. Just ask any club owner how much they spend every year on legal costs defending themselves from ambulance chasing shysters just because some patrons, who just recently achieved bipodal motion, go at in the parking lot or down the street AFTER they have been ejected for displaying antisocial behavior. It seems like our future leaders can't behave themselves, inbibe in moderation or display a reasonable amount of discretion when out in public and usually resort to distributing little pieces of metal among each other without any consideration for target confirmation or collateral damage.

Stevie B (real name Steven Bernard Hill) is a African-American singer, songwriter, and record producer that was highly influential in the Latin freestyle and High-Energy, mostly from Miami and San Jose dance music scene of the late 1980s. Referred to by many as "The King of Freestyle", Stevie B is perhaps best-known for his 1990 number-one hit "Because I Love You (The Postman Song)".

Born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Stevie B worked a variety of jobs--from car washing to fast food--before gaining recognition for his 1987 national club smash "Party Your Body". It was also the title track of his 1988 debut LP, which eventually went gold due to the huge success of "Spring Love". In 1989, he had his first top 40 hits with "I Wanna Be the One," "In My Eyes," and "Love Me For Life." With his 1990 album, Love & Emotion, he reached the height of his success, with the accompanying single "Because I Love You" enjoying four weeks at number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in December of 1990. He had two subsequent top 15 hits with "I'll Be by Your Side" and the title cut. However, with the subsequent rise of alternative rock, Stevie B's light dance-pop sound lost much of its initial mainstream appeal, and he never recaptured his earlier success. In 1998, The Best of Stevie B was released, highlighting the light dance-pop sound that marked the start of his career.
In 2007 Stevie B and Rapper Pitbull did a remake of his hit song "Spring Love" titled "Spring Love 2007". His latest collaboration is with newcomer The Chili Guy. The Chili Guy is perhaps best known from his appearances on the popular afternoon drive radio program "Toucher and Rich" (heard locally in Boston on 104.1 WBCN).
In 2008 Stevie B joins the digital revolution by releasing his newest single "Running For Miles" on his own digital download site ([2]).
Stevie B is currently in the studio recording a duet with Greek pop sensation Super Star G for her highly anticipated American debut, "Where the Gnomes Roam."

Rob Base (b. Robert Ginyard) and DJ E-Z Rock (b. Rodney "Skip" Bryce) are a hip-hop duo from Harlem, New York who are best known for their hit "It Takes Two", a 1988 platinum-selling release that has since become one of the classic hits of the genre.

Their first U.S. single and release was "DJ Interview," appeared on World to World, which later got them a recording contract with Profile Records in 1987.
The first Profile release was "It Takes Two". It uses multiple samples from the James Brown and Lyn Collins 1972 song "Think (About It)." The track first became a regional hit and then slowly climbed the Hot 100, eventually peaking at #36 and picking up a platinum single certification. The song also peaked at #3 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.
An album, also called It Takes Two, was quickly put together and it produced a significant follow-up hit, "Joy and Pain," which sampled a song of the same name by Maze featuring Frankie Beverly, as well as "Put The Music Where Your Mouth Is" by the Olympic Runners. It also hit the Top 10 on the dance chart and climbed to #58 on the Hot 100. However, vicious rumors started to circulate that Rob Base had legal problems for using samples from Maze's Frankie Beverly for the hit "Joy and Pain". Moreover Rob began to have some personal problems at the same time.
He responded in 1989 with The Incredible Base. "Get On the Dance Floor," a track released to clubs in between the two singles, hit #1 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in 1989. One additional song hit the dance chart in late 1989: "Turn It Out (Go Base)," credited only to Rob Base.
By the end of 1989, Rob Base went on his own; DJ E-Z Rock was nowhere on the scene because of his personal issues.
The song "A Minute" by X-Treme, featured in DDRMAX2, samples the lyrics of "Turn it Out (Go Base)".[1]
"Joy and Pain" was also briefly referenced in the NBC sitcom Scrubs, as Dr. Christopher Turk sang the chorus during surgery in Season 1.
Jason Mraz has used "Joy & Pain" on occasion as an outro to live versions of his song "No Doubling Back".

It Takes Two, became a street sensation upon its release in mid-1988. Though the single just barely reached the R&B Top 20 and Pop Top 40, massive club airplay enhanced its impact considerably. Both the single and album eventually went platinum, and Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock gained Single of the Year honors both in Spin and The Village Voice. The second single, "Get on the Dance Floor," continued Base's dance appeal, though his excellent rapping helped

Peniston was crowned Miss Black Arizona in 1989 and signed with A&M in the early '90s. Her debut, Finally, was a gold album; it peaked at number 36 on the pop charts and even landed a Top Ten pop hit with "Finally" and Top 20 pop single "We Got a Love Thang." After Thought 'Ya Knew in 1994, Peniston issued 1996's I'm Movin' On. Peniston continued to sing into the new millennium and regularly plays shows in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and San Francisco. Not entirely part of the mainstream that brought her success in the early '90s, Peniston's work is remixed and remains a favorite in dance clubs around the world. ~ Ron Wynn, All

These KTFM heritage artists are touring now and that is why KTFM is bringing these particular artists...

Far better than the local bands that KISS usually presents its audience with at LOCAL/smaller events with SA parks and rec.

The Beat does bring in some bangers, but only if it means a cash payback...and after the recent firing of Romeo and Nika...It smells like they are parring down their budgets (shadowing what the big boys are doing)...what a shame.

No one is serving their audiences with REAL PRIZES,NOR REAL PROMOTIONS LIKE THEY USE TO...

That went out the window with the jocks...guys.

Posted by: Throwdown- and after the recent firing of Romeo
Thanks Throwdown for confirming what I had speculated earlier but wasn't certain if Univision had fired Romeo.

Hopefully, BMP picks Romeo up and replaces Robin Flores. This guy sounds absolutely horrible.

Throwdown, once again your optimism of KTFM disgust me.

Not only that you are also misinformed and are spreading misinformed information.

First off, Romeo and Nicki were not fired. They were laid off. Yes there is a difference.

Second, you say that this free concert that KTFM is bringing in is somehow better than events that other stations are bringing in? What exactly are you on friend?

Any Beat Bash, Mixfest, or any KISS concert will easily be far more successful than this free concert with 2 one hit wonders and a rapper who isnt very good and hasnt done anything since 1998.

True I give KTFM props for giving San Antonio a free show, and people as cheap as they are will show up. But in no way ever will a free KTFM concert beat any event done by the other stations in the market.

I mean who the hell says OH HELL YEAH, I'M HITTIN UP THAT COOLIO SHOW THIS WEEKEND!

Answer: No One

SARADIO1: I doubt that would happen. I assume Romeo would be too exepensive and wouldnt wanna work hourly. (WHICH BMP HAS DONE BEFORE, I KNOW PEOPLE WHO CAN CONFIRM THIS)

No one ever thought that BMP would ever have a real morning show yet they manage to bring back Woody. And I seriously doubt Woody is getting paid hourly. You also have to keep in mind that SA is BMP #1 market so they just might just spend some cash and hire Romeo as their new PD/Air jock. This is even "if" Romeo is considering another radio gig here in SA.

Good Luck Romeo!!

Mind...calm down bro.

I know Romeo and he would agree with me that not getting paid anymore is just as bad even if management says they still love you when you leave. If they really loved you, you would not be gone. Romeo did his thing and made off with the mad money while he could, not at all his fault. Rarely is it the jocks fault now-isn't that the case?

Romeo was not fired, he was asked to leave due to budgetary reasons...Now did that help him feed his kids?
sheeeeeeeesh

KTFM Free concert VS BEAT BASH or KISS bringin in/presenting Slipknot

Not comparing apples to apples....

KTFM Free concert VS the beat at the Freeman Coliseum, or KISS downtown with crappy local bands is...

I agree with you mind that this is not a BIG EVENT...but I also think it is something cool for the price..

Not every event any station does is a BIG EVENT, nowadays most are not.

I doubt that Landis and company sat down and came up with Coolio as the hottest act to bring in and then went out and got him.
The tour was on, the date was available and the price was right.

If Kiss brings in Linkin Park and throws a FREE concert...that would be something!
If the Beat brought in Kanye West...that would be something!

Actually your point raises the obvious question.....

Who should KTFM or any station in town bring to concert right now?

Maybe there is not a Supergroup/Artist that would really draw everyone in that demo, with so many one hit artists out today.

Mind...relax man. Try some DECAF.

I cant drink coffee Throwdown or I will spend the rest of 2008 in the john.

(Okay that was supposed to be funny)

I agree with you about local KISS events but NOT Beat Bash. I heard that brought in a good amount of revenue. I also agree with you about it being good for the price... nothing. Now those are both points of view that look good on paper. But to the average listener they mean nothing.

Throwdown said:

Okay okay okay, so KBBT probably considers Kanye a artist who they consider a "power artist" so to speak and is played on high rotation. Basically the cream of the crop.

KISS might consider Linkin Park in the same way.

Does KTFM see Coolio or any other of the artist they are bring in theirs? If so... ehhhhhhhhahhhh

Once again I give them props on a free event but how in the world will this benefit them? The only real way it does would be promotion of the radio station. Thats about it.

Bottom line I think BMP should have a little faith in their stations and throw some money into them. Innovative radio isnt free.

The potential is there with as lame as San Antonio people are, but BMP will never benefit if they keep playing the stingy Scrooge McDuck who has wealth but doesnt spend or shares it.

Can we agree on that?

Mind...

I truly believe no station in SA is spending what they should on any promotions...

No T-shirts (some bean counter figured they were a waste, almost no bumper-window stickers, billboards are mostly CC's etc).

CMON...Radio.

Now with the economy tanking is the time to grab the attention of listeners with some BIG Gas giveaways (not $50), Some Hybrid Cars, some Groceries, Give Away Vacations to escape all these problems etc...

But instead we get the same ole family four packs of movie tickets, lawn seats for cheap concerts, six flags tix, YAWN....

No one wants to spin the wheel and win a koozie.

CC actually does this at HUGE EVENTS...puhhhhhhleeeeze. People are laughing at you. I know of a major group that gave away
plastic bags with the station logo on them. That was the prize...a plastic bag...what a joke.

Same thing for the concert events which RADIO use to be a more active promoter of, now RADIO just piggy backs on what the artists and concert promoters are doing...

KTFM use to do the Summer Jams and they were HUGE, they worked it so the prices were small and if the groups/track acts only had one song, you could see 20 of them at one event.

They almost always made money and skimmed some too! (HA)

Don't Tell Bernie.

Anyways...MIND you and I know it, and the stations know it (they really dont care)....Overall it stinks.

For once Throwdown I agree with you.

Must be in the freaking Twilight Zone or something.

But you still didnt comment on what exactly is KTFM gettiing outta the free concert deal, other than the bill and promotion of the radio station.

Sad, how you were right when you said a lot of promoters are jumpping on the backs of what the record or concert promoters are doing.

Ouch, very very ouch.

Mind...

Hey-If you were a new station with no/low budget and you wanted something to air, something to put before the peeps....

Then a FREE CONCERT downtown would not seem so crappy. huh? (Smoke & Mirrors)

That is without even knowing the artists.

Mind...I have been trying to tell you all this time-WE AGREE on a lot of stuff. Mostly I think we just prefer different kinds of music.

However-GOOD RADIO is GOOD RADIO, and like I have heard more than once before.

Good Radio is not Brain Surgery, It's only radio.

Everything has changed-What is on the air now is done in spite of how good/bad it sounds. Budget is Primary, Income is Secondary and the rest just kinda falls into place.

The basic rules of what sounds good, what compels people, what sells the station etc etc is still looked at, but it is not
looked at the same way, by the same people, nor with same importance it once had.

That is why I/Others in here use to come across so ANGRY...

The truth is those with the ultimate power just want a way to keep selling stock.
Then the next level of management tries to make the station(s) sound passable following those rules.
Then the next level executes that, with no budget and limited feedback going uphill allowed.

There are PD's out there being told...If you want to keep your job, cut next years budget by ______ Dollars-Period.
They don't care about the hows and whys.
Those hows and whys----that is where the concerts we would like-went.

The hope-
I believe in the future. That includes radio.
