KTFM: How long will they last?

Since leaving San Antonio, I was wondering if KTFM has made up its mind on what kind of format they are using. Last time I heard, there was more 90s CHR mixed with a few 00's, and still Bee Gees garbage mixed in. is BMP still trying to hold on to the once legendary call letters or will they throw in the towel and go back to spanish?

I doubt it. Univision has the Spanish formats covered very well and I believe BMP Radio & CC know that. In fact, BMP will flip 1250 KZDC Spanish Oldies currently to ESPN Radio on Feb. 4. KTFM took a hit this last book but I believe it was expected since they've transition from Rhythmic Oldies to more Rhythmic AC.

IMO, this is KTFM biggest problem. Mixing disco with the 90's and some 00's. There's not as much disco/70's but it's still there.

ktfm replaced terrible jocks and programmers with more terrible jocks and programmers.

the only thing good about the station is one dollar drinks at working womens wednesdays

lol

note to ktfm-

you will never be the old ktfm. hire a real programmer and real jocks

I'll bet BMP's saving all kinds of money on talent. If they're not, they're overpaying. ;)

I think at one point radio stations used to live and die by the book. These days it's more about the amout of revenue the station is bringing in.

They need to hire a PD that knows what the old KTFM was about in order for this version of KTFM to become successful. Glenn Martin and Steve Chavez come to mind.

You mean Greg Martin who is pd for KTSA, Steve Chavez is busy in Houston with Interscope and Latium Entertainment which is owned by his brother Charles Chavez. Just thought I'd chime in.

NO NO NO! They just need to let it die already. Face it, the old KTFM was doo doo. The only reason why it was so popular was because we had nothing else in this city. The few die hards that are left just need to let it go. It is kind of like watching a kid with down symdrome race against an olympic runner. He isnt ever going to win. Amusing at first but then gets to the point of asking yourself "why even bother?"

I remember I used to want to work there so bad back in the 90's. But eventually I realized it wasnt going to happen, so I moved on. Something that this city has a issue with. What is the deal with this city when it comes to change? Why do people continue to try and hold onto something that worked 15 years ago? Well this is not 1993. Face it, the logo is tired. The crappy freestyle is tired. The regurgitated KTFM jocks are tired. Even the calls are tired! This has turned into a cancer for this city that just wont go away. And I have the feeling I am not the only one who feels this way. Agree? Disagree? Anyone?

Radiojudge, you contridicted yourself! You say KTFM was "doo-doo". Then you say "S.A. can't let go to something that worked 15 years ago". There's a reason why it worked. Greg Martin & Steve Chavez were two of the many reasons. You sound a bit bitter because you tried to get a job there, but you found out it was never going to happen. Things happen for a reason.......................Go Giants!

I think KTFM should stayed more on the R&B/Old School side, and sound a little bit more like KMGV-Mega 97.9 in Fresno or some of the Hispanic leaning R&B/Old School stations on the west coast. They can still throw in a pinch of freestyle music, I'm surprised they didn't lean slightly R&B when KSJL changed format and go after some of their listeners. There were some jocks that sounded ok on the station, I think Miss Nneka sounded good on the air and from my understanding this is her first radio job.

I can see how you could mistake that. I am not bitter in the least. Ratings and revenue wise on paper it was a great station. Where else back then would a CHR jock work in this city? I was a young jock and it was the only place I could go at the time. I never liked the music but hey, it isn't up to me. Another thing, it worked for San Antonio. I never said it worked for me. Reguardless if you wanna acknowledge it or not they were only successful because San Antonio had nothing else. If you dont agree then that is your opinion. I have worked in several markets with similar situations and I always see a handful of people who cant or wont see the point I am getting it.

A station that comes to mind that was similar to KTFM back in the days was Z 95 in Corpus Christi. They're still alive and kicking. How are they still around?

I remember when KTFM re-imaged at Wild 102.7 (remember the two days of Tone Loc's "Wild Thing" played over and over as a stunt?) I stopped listening for good by then becuase I couldnt' tell if they were trying to go up against The Beat, Mix, or both at the same time. Well, we all know what happened to that station in '03.

btw: K-Rock sucked and I was glad it was short lived.

i agree with radiojudge & bradio both in a sense-

its dead, gone, and let it be dead and gone!
BMP doesnt understand what is has or will never understand how to revive it into a great station.
Pretty much everyone at that station when it changed has moved to bigger and better things.

it was what it was then, lets just leave it at that.

and if your wondering....i was in the building at the time.

now....neka - full of energy in person
but that morning show is crap

C'mon...............It was the "only" reason? If you say so! Maybe Mars (a.k.a.-Spike Lee) was right. It was only the shoes when MJ played. ;D
