ktfm

ktfm went from being a solid hot ac to become this???? why give up the unique market position where you own all the music for a format that shares music with 3 other stations? if i were on the sales staff, i would be raising holy heck!

and if i were at magic, i would be celebrating. they've beaten ktfm out of the hot ac format in a few short months.

What is your beef with this station? Every single post you have made is pretty much bashing them. You must either be... ex employee or a Clear Channel programmer.

Seriously though, just thought I would ask.

Not sure where you're getting 3 stations but whatever. The fact of matter is that KTFM wasn't cutting it with the Hot AC format. If you don't have numbers then it's difficult to sell the station to potential advertisers. Hopefully, KTFM gets it together soon and dumps the remaining Hot AC tunes and goes full Top 40 Chr as they will have the upper hand with live and local air staff.

And please, don't give me the b/s about Mix having 100,000 watts. KTFM reaches all of SA which is the target market.

Well in my opinion Mix will not be easy to take down. They sound really good. (if you like that type of music)

I for one would be very interested in a full blown radio war between these two stations. KTFM local jocks would be a huge plus for them. However the Mix music, imaging, and heritage will be hard to overcome. In the end, depending if KTFM went this route it would become very interesting.

There's my non biased 2 cents.

oh contrar dominiqueradio. ive applauded this station any time i thought theyve done well. to date ive made 6 posts. i thought thats what this board was for. your entitled to your opinions. im entitled to mine.

dominiqueradio why do you rush to the defense of ktfm every time somebody says something criticle? whats your motiveation? thats the problem with message boards. anybody with a differing opinion automatically a member of the competition or a disgruntled exemployee. very cliche reponse. im neither but i also think we can have a decint conversation without being so defensive.

saradio there are three stations playing jason derulo black eyed peas kesha david getta and others. how do they know hot ac wasnt working? they tinker with the station every week so how do they know what really works and what doesnt?

my friends at magic are popping the bubbly. ktfm has completely abandoned hot ac and has left the field wide open to them.

Well I for one believe that the message boards are FOR entitled opinions. I was just curious. As for me rushing to their defense... I just strongly believe in everyone in this business SHOULD get along. I don't believe in petty squabbles just because another counterpart works for a different radio company. I was more curious about your displeasure towards this station rather than think of my opinions toward it. Nothing more.

I welcome different opinions on this message board. If JoeBlow/JaneBlow wants to bash whomever then that is their decision.

As a form of justification on my behalf, I used to be that guy (years ago) that would join in on any given radio war between people at other radio companies. I was more than willing to join in on the bashing. But then one day I woke up and realized, that is just silly. We are all doing the same kind of work and most of us love it. There is nothing wrong with respecting your colleagues. Because I certainly demand the respect in return.

You keep doing your thing ChickWoolery. My curiosity meant no disrespect.

KTFM has been Hot AC for a year and half. That my friend is plenty of time for any station to know whether a format is working or not. Let also point out, Magic has been ahead of KTFM in the diaries and now PPM's since day one of KTFM flipping to Hot AC, so your friends at Magic should have been popping the bubblies long ago.

You can't include The Beat as a 3rd station since they are much more focus on a format-Hip Hop that's on a downward spiral. IMO, KTFM has more to gain than to lose by going Top 40 as it will take listeners from Mix and The Beat. Similar to what's happening in Houston where as Hot 95.7 has been eating away at the numbers of heritage stations KRBE and KBXX. Also, in the PPM's world Top 40 does well. Take a look at numbers in LA, Houston, NYC, Dallas, Miami, Chicago, and Pheonix. Another thing to take into consideration is the average age in SA, which I believe is 31. With that in mind, another Top 40 station will perform better than 3 Hot AC stations.

I gave up on KTFM a long time ago. They change up the format so much its not even funny. I don't think they stand a chance againts mix. They aught to try a dance like format or something like the old jammin 105.9 was.

Yeah but KXXM Mix 96.1 can be heard in New Braunfels KTFM 94.1 can't do that at least on a walkman.

It appears KTFM is now day parting it's programing. Hot AC/Top 40 during the day and Top 40 at night with Billy Bush.

7pm hour-

Kesha- Tik Tok
Jesse McCartney- How Do You Sleep?
The Script- Breakeven
Jordin Sparks- One Step At A Time
Kris Allen- Live Like We're Dying
Pink- Who Knew
David Guetta- Sexy Chick
Rihanna- Rude Boy
Owl City- Fireflies
Lady Gaga w/Beyonce- Telephone
Jason DeRulo- In My Head
Katy Perry- Hot N Cold

I normally do not listen to the radio but I recently turned them on and they sounded just like Mix. A lot of people are starting to notice that.

What if...

What if KJXK and KTFM switched frequencies, so KTFM could become 102.7 once again...would Jack really lose that much coverage area? Not really. What is stopping BMP from making this happen??

Because it isn't worth the trouble. KTFM was a complete disaster and failure in its last years at 102.7. Couple that with the fact that BMP is in all kinds of money trouble and moving around stations unneccessarily is certainly not on the top of their immediate to-do list.

Technically it COULD happen. But Jack is doing well according to PPM, so there is no way they would change it. I think it would be huge.

KTFM has a better morning show, and a better playlist and imaging, but sadly they have few resources...and won't get any until somebody saves BMP.

KXXM has heritage with Kraddick. Travatto's been in place for awhile, so he must know what he's doing.

Having worked with him before, I can say he really does.

Maybe BMP has found that Jack's audience is easier to sell to advertisers and is thus more profitable than KTFM's audience?

That's exactly why KTFM will not end back on 102.7. Jack is BMP top performing station in the cluster. But seriously, this market is large enough to support two Top 40 stations.

As for the heritage thing, in the PPM that doesn't matter.
