KTKR in trouble with Spurs Brass for fake Iverson skit...

Wow, that really is a big deal.

When you're working at the market's biggest sports talker and forbidden from covering the market's only major league sport, that doesn't bode well for your continued employment.

Unless The Ticket is content to have Vex and Walter fill their shows with talk of the Silver Stars, Rampage and college sports now. ::)

More detail in an article from the Sports section in today's E-N. The Spurs backed down a bit from their earlier position.

Radio station's credentials won't be revoked

Johnny Ludden
Express-News

Spurs officials said Sunday they won't revoke the credentials of two KTKR-AM 760 talk-show hosts who participated in a skit mocking Denver guard Allen Iverson last week.

<snip>

Vexler and Pasacrita also aren't allowed to participate in the Spurs' pregame and postgame shows, but Tom James, the Spurs' director of media services, said Sunday the team doesn't think it has justification for revoking the pair's media credentials.

Sorry to hear about someone losing their job, but after the Imus episode, you really have to think before you do bits that are offensive, especially in a city where minorities dominate the population. I personally enjoy STSA on KTKR. It can be a little "junior highish" at times, but it's fairly entertaining. Glad to hear that the Spurs have mended fences.

Even better news that the Spurs beat the Nuggets to take a 3-1 lead in the series. GO SPURS GO!

I guess since they are members of the master race, they have immunity. Maybe if they were racially handicapped, they'd be filling out the application for West Telemarketing. They should have been canned with the PD, since they didn't have enough sense to refuse to take part in anything like that. Besides, who really cares? Their show sucks. They hardly talk about sports. They can't sell any commercials. They're almost as nauseating as Charley Parker, choosing to discuss the latest from the National Enquirer, Am Idol updates or trying to lipsync to their favorite 80's songs. The only thing thats worth listening to on that sorry excuse for a sports station is Jim Rome. Yes, this is the future, we are all equal. Dr King did not die in vain. What can you expect in mucho taco town?

Yeah, I'm not totally happy with the "mucho taco town" comment. It happens to be my hometown and I love its culture.

I will agree that STSA, does tend to get off the sports topics, and on to entertainment a little too often. Especially with the Spurs in the playoffs right now. It's understandable, when the Spurs season is over, and there is a lull before football season, but right now focus on the Spurs and the NBA playoffs.

You are the epitome of whats wrong with radio people these days. You are quick to be judgemental about other people and their shows yet hide behind a screen name so others cant judge yours. Grow up. Someone lost their job, are you that cold hearted???? I am willing to bet you've lost a radio job or two, how'd it feel? Sucks I bet. Last thing the guy needs is to be reading some "nobody" talk trash about a foolish mistake. I am willing to bet everyone who takes part of these boards has done something really stupid on air myself incuded. Give the guy a freakin break.

Getting back to the original topic, the biggest unresolved issue in this incident is what the roles of Vexler and Pasacrita were in letting this skit get on the air. Their free-wheeling shoot-from-the-hip personas convey that they are hardly puppets who do the bidding of people behind the scenes. So surely their hands aren't completely clean here. They are the public face of their shows and their station and yet they've made no public comment about the skit.

Even if those guys were disciplined behind the scenes, it seems like there should have been a public apology and and explanation from them at a minimum.
