KTLA 5.2 lit up and airing THIS-TV programming

After about 2 or 3 weeks with a still graphic stating THIS-TV was coming on digital 5.2, KTLA finally turned it on sometime today and is now airing programming. Looks like it will primarily be airing movies (albeit not very great movies, it's airing the David Carradine / Stockard Channing 'classic' Safari 3000 from 1982 as I punch this post out. Yeah, I never heard of it either. It's basically Gumball Rally with stock footage shots of zebras running across the African plain.

First commercial I see aired: that scam known as Cash4Gold ::) then an ad for The South Beach Diet book and network plug for the movie Leviathan to be shown later tonight . Breaks are very short, it couldn't have been longer than 2 minutes.

Hopefully we'll get more subchannels that aren't religious programming soon. It would be really cool if someone picked up Retro Television Network in Los Angeles.

What I think would be absolutely ripe for a KTLA sub-channel and would personally love to see is old classic programming from Channel 5's halcyon golden days of the late 40s thru early 60s.

I know that this probably will never happen due to a number of factors, including availability, but I think that it would be so cool to see old KTLA classics like:

The Continental
Ina Ray Hutton
Tricks and Treats w/Corris Guy
Spade Cooley
Mississippi Showboat
Hopalong Cassidy
Roller Derby
Leighton Noble
Harry Owens & his Royal Hawaiians
Wrestling from the Olympic
Strictly Informal w/Larry Finlay
Polka Parade
Jalopy Derby (Ascot Park)
Hometown Jamboree
Lawrence Welk (much different than his later ABC & syndicated programs)
Melody Ranch
City at Night
Beany & Cecil (puppet show)
Sandy's Dream

OK, I overdid it on the samples, but you get the idea. Cost and availability would probably be the two biggest roadblocks. I know that much of the old KTLA kinescopes and videos have been either erased, lost, or decomposed. But, KTLA in particular and L.A. television in general has a legacy like no others. That era of L.A. television should never be forgotten, and it deserves to be seen on a regular basis.

I'm with you RicoGregg,

and I'd add Bowling For Dollars w/ Chick Hearns
or Tom Hatten hosting a Family Film Festival (along with a Popeye drawing)

If KTLA ran a subchannel with classic (retro) programming like they did over Thanksgiving a few years ago 24/7, I'd never click away.

WAVE-DT in Louisville has been running This TV for a couple months. I've enjoyed watching some things I haven't seen iin years. In addition to showing MGM-UA B grade movies, I've seen Pink Panther cartoons, Mr. Ed, Patty Duke, and Bat Masterson TV shows. I use the titantv.com site as a tv schedule since its difficult to find whats on otherwise.
