KTLA 5 in San Diego Cable?

How can KTLA be allowed in San Diego Cox/Time-Warner Cable? I thougth LA stations are prohibited to transmit their signal to San Diego because of Market Exclusivetly(sp.).

Most likely KTLA is blacked out during most of the day in San Diego. Some cable systems outside the Los Angeles market only offer KTLA during the morning and 10:00 newscasts. Have you observed KTLA being made available during other parts of the day?

They can carry KTLA on Cable as long as they black out any show a local station (who has exclusive rights to) requests the Cable company to black out.

Interesting Note....KTLA is on Dish Network...No blackouts. So is WSBK, WWOR, WPIX and KWGN. The FCC declared them grandfathered Superstations, but said something to the effect that local stations may be able to force blackouts if a certain percentage of people in their respective markets receive the station. My guess is that Dish is under the radar because it doesn't actively market their Superstation package. You have to ask for it.

KTLA in San Diego is available on some part of the cable lineup in Coronado and Chula Vista/National City, but they are part of the blackouts that can happen to local shows. However, I'm surprised that the former superstations that did not get mentioned are KTVU channel 2 in Oakland/San Francisco which of course can be now part of Dish Network's distant networks package through All American Direct which I can get along with WAGA-TV in Atlanta and KDFW-TV in Dallas/Fort Worth. The other superstation that was also available was KTXL FOX 40 in Sacramento which like KTVU left the national scene in 1990.

KTVU was dropped as a grandfathered superstation because it became FOX and is considered a network affiliate. The CW and MyNetwork TV are not considered "netowrks' by FCC standards. The same thing happened to KTVT in Dallas. WGN Chicago now has a separate cable only channel that carries WGN-TV's newscast. WTBS is just simply TBS and the local Atlanta station is now WPCH.
