KTLA Morning News 20th Anniversary Program

I was only able to see the show while I had my big C band dish here in Phoenix, and I didn't start to watch it on a regular basis until the station's 50th anniversary show. I tuned in to the morning news to see what kind of promotional activity they would have for the program and before the show was over I was hooked. I loved the Morning News and the talented people they have and/or had.

I had to quit watching when KTLA and the rest of the Superstations were taken off of C band. I subscribe via Dish network, but I don't know if Dish would just sell me KTLA by itself. (Besides, I'm too used to the a la carte choices that C band had!)

I knew their anniversary was coming up in July, but I forgot to keep track of the date. It turns out I missed Thursday first run and Sunday morning's repeat. ;-( Had I known I could've asked my daughter to TIVO it for me. Unfortunately,...... ;-(

thanks.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, local morning news has only increased in frequency and ratings in the past 20 years. Now, a morning anchor position is just as, if not more, valuable than a weekend evening anchor position. L.A. is probably lucky that there are some strong personalities in these morning positions, and it, at times, can be entertaining. However, in most smaller markets it is one step from watching paint dry.

I understand the formula, but as a news watcher geek, these shows are almost unwatchable as they rotate information usually on a 10-15 minute wheel. If you watch for only a few minutes at a time, then they fulfill. Any longer and you will need some Advil pretty quickly. That having been said, they are usually quite effective for stations to brand their product and create a news image.

I know what you mean. The local shows here in Phoenix are largely unwatchable. They try hard to do the same things the people in the large markets do, but fail....big time! There should be a rule that says newspeople shouldn't try to do funny stuff if they don't have the talent. And there's a lot here that don't have the talent. (IMHO)

I have other opinions on this, but as you can tell from the first paragraph I've probably stepped on enought toes already. Therefore, I should probably stop here.

Thanks.

Did anyone TIVO (or, somehow record) this program? Is there anyone willing to make copies of said program? Thanks.

I missed it, as I was in Las Vegas over most of last week; I believe they posted the anniversary show on KTLA.com.

I don't usually have time to the morning news on any of the five stations that it do (2, 4, 5, 7, and 11), but I usually try to sample each of them specifically to get traffic and weather information before I head off to work. I do have some Fridays off, but I still often wake earlier enough to watch the KTLA Morning News and Good Day L.A. Most of the time, at least, 5 tries to do more hard stories as opposed to 11, where's just Jillian & Friends in the final two hours...and poor Steve Edwards :-[

KNBC was the first L.A. station to do local news in the morning, with Today in L.A. (25 years this year), then of course other stations following suit (don't forget that KCAL, in the early days under the Disney ownership, did an hour at 6am until it was cancelled for more cartoons).

shawn hill - thanks for the tip on the ktla website. I found the videos and downloaded them for looking at later.

WOW! what a collection!

Thanks.

KTLA morning news is way better than KTTV. I cant stand those 2 hags in the morning. Megan Henderson in the 4:30am -7am does a great job as a news anchor. Hell Ill even watch Wendy Burch over those 2 hags on KTTV
