The final broadcast from Stages 7/8 occurred Wednesday October 11th, 2016. The last broadcast was the 5AM to 10AM news block. The 1PM news was the first program from the new KTLA Stage 6
KTLA moved to the former Warner Brothers movie lot in 1954 when Paramount Pictures, then the owner of KTLA, purchased the property.
The station used 3 studios, 2 studios of the lots 8 sound stages and added TV2, a converted screening room immediately north of stages 7/8, for the third studio.
Stage 7 was the smaller of the three stages and was used for commercials and other programs that did not require an audience.
Stage 8 was connected at the east side of Stage 7 and was one of the two stages used for live audience show. TV2 was the other.
After KTLA was sold to Gene Autry in 1964, all of the studios other 6 stages were utilized for television production under the name Golden West Tape.
KTLA's new studio home is Stage 6. It was one of the larges televisions stages in LA. Stage 6, contains the new KTLA News set, a second 40' x 40' stage for production, the KTLA News Center, a News Center on-camera presenter position, incoming news and satellite master control, and a new Studio 6 control room.
Stage 7 and 8 will revert to control of Hudson Properties, the owner of the KTLA lot.
KTLA Master Control and a production control room used with Stages 7/8 remains in Building 15.
The KTLA lot is undergoing major new construction with the addition of a 14 story office building. Netflix is believed to be a major tenant when completed.
