KTLR 890 FM Simulcast Moved to 94.1

I was scanning the band the other day and noticed that KTLR now has their FM simulcast on 94.1 instead of 96.5. KQCV FM switched over its simulcast from 94.1 to 96.5.

The 94.1 translator is 250w and transmits from near NW 63rd and Classen, while the 96.5 is only 75w and translates from near Crossroads Mall. The 94.1 seems to cover the metro quite well for in-car listening. I was able to get it in with a decent signal in Choctaw as well as south of Deer Creek. So far, they are still just broadcasting Business Talk Radio Network after 890 signs off, but the Catholic broadcasting that goes on in the afternoon promotes their hopes of having their broadcasts continue on 94.1 after 890 signs off.

I wonder how the Tylers were able to get their KTLR simulcast switched with KQCV-FM's simulcast.

You may be right. They still have their 95.5 translator, which is south of the 94.1 translator, plus they have the 96.5 translator.

The service contour map on the FCC site shows that both 95.5 and 96.5 are outside of their service area. I don't know a lot about the technical side of things, though I do know that many translators around the OKC area fall outside of the service contour maps found on the FCC site. The various translators of KZTH 88.5 all fall outside of 88.5's service area (according to the map at FCC's site).

I can say that listening to the Charles Hightower spin his music on 94.1 sounds quite good.

Non-comms can do that. That's how Doyle and the gang can put translators up to extend service. Commercial operators cannot. It's just too bad someone doesn't allow Charles to play on HD-2 somewhere more often. Charles Notower needs a tower in this city IMHO.
