KTMT Medford - Format flip....The Beat returns!

93.7 Medford KTMT has been airing a heartbeat loop all weekend...this can only mean one thing...THE BEAT will return! Used to love KTMT The Beat / Power 93 back in the 90's when I was on the air @ "rival" KLDR. Glad to see a return, and glad to see Casey Baker taking a chance. If my prediction is correct, they will compete even more so now with KISF (Kiss) and Hot 98.9. Shoot be a good ratings battle coming up.

Lets hope its a good one!

Not sure. I did notice today the heartbeat has sped up in BPM...must be getting close! I would hope they hire...bring back some raw talent to the area

Raw talent is a good way to describe it. KISS and Hot don't have much to worry about at this point. Imaged as the original hit music station, they sound like a hotter version of the previous Mix incarnation. Elvis Duran might prove too edgy for the market, but give it time, it will play the role of spoiler and pull a little off both Opus and Bicoastal.

Regardless, Beat 93.7 is leaps and bounds ahead of that train wreck called KLDR. They must play over 2,000 records and talk CONSTANTLY!

The format, in my opinion is better than both KISS and HOT. The imaging though is not the greatest. The female voice is not working. The male is the same as old Jammin 955 in portland and rocks, but doesnt mesh with the female at all.

I was really upset to see them bring on Elvis and not a local morning show. I believe that was a poor choice. I do think they will fair much better in the next book than before the flip from My Mix.

YES, KLDR is very interesting format and has never had a following in Medford. The Wilson's run a very 'tight' ship there and havent changed their ways in over 50 years. But, it works for the locals in Grants Pass - so theres no reason to change things up I suppose.

KTMT is playing the role of spoiler and will never amount to much of a threat to KISS. Going CHR was a knee-jerk reaction of Mapleton after seeing some huge growth in the fall book for KISS and HOT. I still believe HOT 98.9 will have more impact on KISS than KTMT ever will.

To properly resurrect "The Beat" would require more than putting Elvis Duran on the air and a few jocks that sound more at home on Lite 102 than trying (very poorly, I might add) to sound hip on KTMT. The Beat was an attitude and the heritage was massive. Years ago, KKJJ caught them sleeping, flipped to KISS, and they had no choice other than to pack it in. With KTMT's great signal, it is a shame they cannot seem to put a winner on there. Male image voice St. John sounds out of place these days, and I agree with caseymac that the girl kills the image completely.

To call the latest attempt "The Beat" is an insult to those who made it great back in the day. It is a frail attempt at a CHR that won't have the ability to beat HOT 98.9 let alone KISS. As for KLDR, I cannot begin to fathom how a station like that works anywhere. They are in GP's back pocket, and frankly, there is something to be said for their remarkable ability to do business there. Medford, however, will never give a rip about it. Their library is obviously massive, the jocks (aside from Jeanette on a good day) are a bunch of puking liner card and PSA readers, and the mindless banter between the traffic director, GM, and engineer popping into the studio is horrendous. They talk CONSTANTLY and usually about NOTHING. Grants Pass can have 'em!

Train wreck????...I will give you this KLDR does do a lot of PSA's which Casey is right but that's the way they want it here in GP.KLDR is a community first station..the format is simple it's a Hot AC/Modern AC hybrid and by the way we do realize we are not going to take over Medford however our numbers have jumped up significantly in Medford since our format "tweak"..KLDR is no longer playing any CHR type "fluff" such as Beiber,Selena Gomez,One Direction..you get the idea..when we play any 80's it's Modern Rock 80's(i.e.Depeche Mode,The Cure etc.)..we are no longer doing Bette Davis Eyes,Footloose etc. unless it's in our Retro Noon Hour..and yes we don't rotate our songs every two fricken hours like some of those "big city" Medford stations..our rotation is a little deeper now that we are a hybrid and the reaction has been incredibly positive and like I said the numbers have jumped significantly...We "tweaked" it to the hybrid when KTMT was still a Hot AC(straight Hot AC).KTMT goes CHR we stay a hybrid...does that explain everything Mr. Leftie

Looks like there hasn't been any update on this station in a while and it has flipped again to mainstream CHR as Now 93.7, modeling sister station KZBD in Spokane. Looks like two of the DJs are tracked from that station.

Yes, KLDR is a community radio station. They will never jeopardize their license considering all they do for Grants Pass.

Formatically, it's still the oddest thing on the radio. I'm sure there's a method to the madness, considering the love is certainly in Eastlan each book. Not going to argue that! I am glad that they finally have some competition in town in KCMD. It's good for everyone.

KCMD is up and running full speed in GP. One of the best sounding stations on the dial with some creative processing / format...took some time to get there; but is doing fairly well now for a couple of first time radio operators.

Are you flippin' kidding me?!?! KCMD sounds like a college radio station and goes WAY too deep on some cuts. Processing is good, but that's about all I can say about it. I heard a jock one day stop the music for 90+ seconds to talk about a fire in the L.A. area that was approaching some homes in the area before returning to a secondary (possibly tertiary) cut from Pure Prairie League. I still don't know how I feel about "Misty Mountain Hop" by Zep into "Whip It" by Devo.

The thing I loved was the "station that makes you feel good" sweeper into "California Dreaming" by Mamas & The Papas. Someone has their head up their ass. If I were KLDR, I wouldn't worry too much...YET. KCMD at least plays more familiar music (albeit a little deep at times) and doesn't do that annoying interupt-the-stopset-with-a-PSA thing.

As any new station, KCMD took a little time to 'find their footing'....I do agree with that.

They were more focused on getting a reliable / good sounding signal on the air (which they have now), than music scheduling. Take a look at their facebook page (facebook.com/kcmdfm)....not a signal negative comment on programming, in fact - quite the opposite! Starting to turn into a pretty good local station
