"Our first broadcast was in February 1986. At that time former-President George W. Bush addressed the Navajo People and stated, the Navajo Nation has received the last granted 50,000 watt license, KTNN AM-660."

That is FALSE, is it not? I can think of at least one 50KW permit that was appkied for in the last AM window and will be granted.

I emailed them to have them correct their facts...

Well, it says "...Bush addressed the Navajo People and stated..."

Key phrase is: 'Bush stated'. If that's what he stated, it's what he stated. Whether it's true or not, that lends to Bush's credibility.

But if he stated it, they can say he stated it!

I think he meant the last 50kW day/50kW night station. I cannot think of any others since then. Or am I wrong?

He also could have meant "last" as a synonym for "most recent".

I wonder if it was maybe the last one for which there was previously no station on that frequency, and/or the last one in which the 0.25uV/m contour didn't reach an ocean?

KTNN started out as a Class II-B, sharing 660 with I-A WFAN, New York. But, it was one of the last, if not the very last 50kW/50kW D/N USA station operating on any of the original clear channels. It was sort of a big deal for those of us here in Arizona at the time. There's a list of those original clear channels here: http://www.oldradio.com/archives/stations/ccs.htm

KTNN was reclassified as a Class B with the breakup of the clear channels in the early 1980's, and those can operate on the both the former clears (Class I & II) and the former regional (class III) channels.

Re: KTNN 660 Web Site MISTAKES!!!

Am I the only one to notice how full of historical mistakes that web site posting is?

In 1986, Ronald Reagan was president. George Herbert Walker Bush was vice president, And George Walker Bush - his son - was not even in politics yet. So when they state that at that time - in 1986 - former president George W. Bush granted them an allotment, they are incorrect. George W. Bush is president NOW, not a former president in 1986, and it would not even be a correct statement for the Senior Bush, George H.W. Bush - who would also not be a former president in 1986. His presidency was from 1988 to 1992.

That statement is a MESS - they need to figure out which Bush it was, and word it right. This only perpetuates the racist myth of "lazy, stupid indians". I would expect that they would want to correct their web site ASAP in the name of professionalism.

You are kidding, RIGHT?? Only us radio geek would really care, and very few at that.

You surely know ironbear, that if a plain vanilla 50kw signal is the issue, that there's a station in KTNN's backyard that disproves their claim. KCCF, now KFNX, signed on in the early 90s. I am not sure if they were 25kw then, but if so, they applied and quickly got permission for their current 50kw. Of course, they are Class B and have always ceded to original cc WTAM/Cleveland. And then there's the issue of their 1kw night signal. Nevertheless, it could be interpreted as such.
