KTON question

Can someone please elaborate on this whole KTON situation? I'm wondering where it's slated to end up once everything is complete. Someone posted a couple of days ago that the towers are somewhere now, but I'm wondering if the station is still dark. The last that I heard from KTON was Country Gold Radio which was about a year ago. I'm also wondering who owns it now?

Good question. Last I heard, the station went dark a couple of months ago, with Dan Frishberg of BizRadio planning to move it into DFW (easier now to move in 940AM, since Cumulus/Susque signed off 950 a while back.) Problem is, the proposed city of license is still up in the air, last I knew. Rockwall, Royse City and Lancaster have all been mentioned, but none of these make sense with Frish's new-found target, Fort Worth. (I just checked the FCC database, and Lancaster is now the pick of the day, proposing a full 50kW.) JLF Communications is shown as the current owner ("F" for "Frishberg"?); it was the Rafft Corporation until March 2007. Strangely enough, JLF's address is connected to KILE Radio in Houston, along with Habanero Ventures and Sangeet Radio. This may be another lease arrangement for Frishberg instead of ownership, which really accomplishes nothing...KMNY's time is leased, but broadcasts from Hurst at 50kW, and actually has a better shot into Fort Worth, which is Frish's latest love. And KILE is flipping to sports/entertainment talk as KGOW "The Game" on August 20. It was my understanding at one point that BizRadio was moving from KXYZ to KILE as part of its breakup with Multicultural Broadcasting (MRBI.) Even if that happens later, this again sounds like a lease arrangement.

The FCC application shows 3 towers, but we're talking a fresh move-in and all the engineering work that goes along with it. I just can't see this thing on the air for at least a couple of years. Even if you had an unlimited budget, you'd have to have a 24-hour crew there and an FCC field supervisor on constant duty for instant approvals (yeah, right) to get this thing up and running much sooner than that. With the ongoing flux at BizRadio and still no ratings on the radar, who's to say if all the participants will still be solvent when the airdate ever gets here.

Again with Frishberg , logic and reality are non-existent. Perhaps he needs to contact Thom Bailey. They have much in common.
