Last night, (Aug 31) KTPB, Kilgore, played its last local broadcast with the whole staff at hand. At 10 PM, they switched to a satellite feed of classical music which comes from WFMT in Chicago. That will run until the sale with EMF is finalized by the FCC. It is thought that will be in the next couple of weeks. We'll see....

Meanwhile, I understand that EMF is installing the satellite dish at the KTPB transmitter site to relay their California based K-Love format to East Texans.
 
An engaging requiem for a radio station. Any word on the incorporation of SOAR--Save Our Arts Radio--what its intentions are, who is heading it up. Seems to be no word at all floating. Maybe the group founders are quietly laying out their plan of action and will soon make a broadly-based announcement on SOAR's count, amount, and direction.

Before I ask this question, let me say up front that I in no way am anti-Christian radio.

But...isn't it presuming a bit to be installing the satellite dish when the deal hasn't even been fully approved? Or am I out of my tree for asking?
 
Anyone know if KATG 88.1 is that AFR? They are owned by American Family Association, so I assume they are a afr religous format?

I know the SOAR folks have a meeting next week to talk about a game plan. One rumor is they may try to purchase or LMA an existing station. The problem is they are basically a Tyler based group, and any underperforming station that could be purchased at a reasonable cost won't have a very good signal in Tyler.

It would probably be cheaper and easier if they all bought XM or Sirius Satellite radios, but I wish them well with making an attempt.

I guess it is a good gamble. The chance of the FCC rejecting the sale is slim to none. In the grand scheme of things, the dish isn't very expensive. I hear they have also installed some phone lines for remote control purposes. I'd be interested to know where they call in from. California, maybe?
