KT'R-FM Morning Show Priorities

This morning Snooze 92/3 carried a live VA Tech news conference
which began before 6:30 and ran till after 6:40. It's something
one would expect them to air.

Afterwards I have to question their thinking. (Forget Deputy Dan,
Mr. Ed, the fluff piece with the opening "belch" sounder, etc.,
as these were likely tossed for the moment.)

They tossed to a break with the tease that sports would be next.

What the...? Sports is more important than news?

KT'R already trashed their hourly hot clock for the live event so
why not fill us in with all the other news stories (especially local)
that were pre-empted in the 6:30-6:39 hard news window?
You can put your news wheel back together at 7.

Just because sports is supposed to be at :45 doesn't mean it has to run
at :45. ::) Or does it? Well these are the KT'Rs, home of two big-league
pro teams and one major college team......plus the Cardinals. ;D
So many franchises and so little broadcast time that they send spill to
the FM when they assured us last fall they wouldn't.

Yeah, I guess sports is important at Snooze 92/3 KT'R-FM, more important
than news.

Did KTAR ever actually say there would be no sports on FM? I definitely remember them promoting the hell out of "all sports, all the time" on 620. I could be wrong, but I don't think they ever specifically stated that there would be NO interruptions. Am i right? Are people putting words in KTAR's mouth?

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz....no big deal, again!

I learned my lesson about straying off the clock when I worked at an AM station back in the late 80s. The owner called me up and schooled me on sticking to the clock. You won't EVER catch me off the clock again!! ;D

I think the biggest reason to stay on the clock is the advertising. Think about it. Who wants to hear Paulie's Nissan ads during a hard news block? ;)

I kind of wonder sometimes about this bidness..we are the medium that can change in a moment...that can be fly by the seat of your pants, that can be unpredicatable..yet, we have pigeoned ourselves to be as predictable as Mrs Kravitz morning constitution.

Why not complain that the local meteorologist was wrong?

You complain and bash, but yet you still listen... Why?

Free FM sucks, so I don't listen. Try it, it might work for you too.

Mr. Ed was one of the elements pre-empted, so he couldn't have
been wrong. ;)

Other than KT'R, what else is there for big chunks-o-news during the
AM commute?

55/FYI is only little chunks, and you have to put up with, well, you know
the drill, a raving lunatic talkmeister and good ol' Royal Norman's canned
weather. The only good thing is the traffic twins--if Jacobs will shut up
and let them, uh, "trafficate." ;D

KJZZ? Not for me. It's like the "morning edition" (pun intended) of
Nancy Pelosi's Fan Club on Lumberyard 1440.

That leaves Snooze 92/3 KT'R, and when they blow off making good a
news block (pre-empted due to live event coverage) in favor of sports...

My theory is (David Eduardo and others feel free to correct as needed)
that since a lot of listeners have a 25-35 minute commute and they start
work on the hour or half-hour, KT'R gets gets a half-hour at :00 or :30
to grab their attention. If you can't deliver a detailed news block during
that time, why should we listen? We don't need sports, movie reviews and
the other assorted fluff pieces if you can't provide 1) news, 2) traffic, and
3) weather, first.
