KTRB - KPMP

The May 27th deadline to build these has passed. Are they up and running with new facilities? I can't hear KPMP on the coast, and KTRB does not sound very different from before.

Oops, never mind. The FCC granted both of them a waiver to extend construction:BMJP-20020910AAB Major change in licensed facilitiesAuction 32Waiver of 5/27/06 construction deadline granted by letter 1800B3-ib on 11/21/05New Expiration date is 12/23/2006.

UPDATE: KTRB/860 went off the air on Monday, June 19, and the new KMPH/840 -- changed from KPMP -- will begin broadcasting this Sunday, June 25, from Modesto.

The Pappas engineers are currently working on tuning the studio-to-transmitter link from San Francisco to the new KTRB nighttime site near Livermore. Tests on 860 may start in a few weeks.

Re: KMPH/840 Testing (Was: KTRB - KPMP)

Since I can't get an answer on whether Modesto belongs to the Sacramento board or to the Central California board (my opinion: Sacramento), and since this thread began here, I'll add...

KMPH/840 did begin testing today, running their transmitter with open carrier only (no programming), along with IDs ("KMPH AM, Modesto") every ten minutes or so.

Re: KTRB - KPMP Could someone update the time line for these two stations?

Two weeks of construction sounds is getting a bit old, what is the time line for doing something a bit more creative with the signal! They do stop the loop for paid programing though! Anyone know whats going on?

Well, it has been a while, so here is an update for those who don't know. KPMP (silly calls) turned into KMPH, and they are pretty much like the old KTRB, except for playing pop standards all day long, and brokered at night, all on 840 khz.
The real news appears to be KTRB, which has been testing for a couple of weeks during the daytime on 860 khz. They applied to modify the current CP, and simplify the CP to one site instead of three (Day, critical and night). My guess is that once the CP is granted, they will turn it on, 50 KW day and night.

The real question is: What will the format be?

Well, let's see if KMPH-840 continues to run the HD noise, when the NEW KTRB-860 begins programming. Two second adjacent assignments will be lucky to survive beyond they're immedate markets with the present HD system.

I can detect the KMPH HD carriers on my FIM-41, but not on any other radio I have here out on the coast. So it will not be a factor here. And because the KTRB contours are so directional west, I doubt that they will have any effect at all on KMPH.

I wonder if KTRB may consider Adult Standards as their format? In San Francisco, there wouldn't be any competition unlike in Modesto, where KMPH competes against KVIN-920 with their "Music Of Your Life" format.
