The Houston Police Department loss one of it's own and injured another at 5:30am 6/29/08. As of the 10:30am news update no mention of the story. Just your Fox News Updates. I have not heard a thing on it. The website as no mention of this tragic story at 10:54am

My sympathy to the family, brothers, sisters, and friends of the lost and injured.

I live in Philly, trust me its a big deal around here when a Philly cop gets shot and killed. KYW 1060 and all the other local outlets here would treat it as a major story. I'm socked by what KTRH did. I would call and complain to the radio station about this right now.

When did radio decide it was too expensive to have weekend local news? And when did local TV stations realize that local news was important seven days a week?

I'd bet Houston's big three network affiliates all have news on weekend mornings. In NYC, all three are on the air at 6 A.M. Saturdays and Sundays. And on weekdays in NYC, 2, 4, 5, 7, 11 and 41 all have morning news shows that begin at 5 A.M.

How is it that TV stations look at local news as a way to MAKE money and radio sees local news only as a way to LOSE money? 20 years ago, most local TV stations in Houston and elsewhere only did news in the dinner hour on weekdays and at 10 or 11 P.M (depending on the time zone). Now there's news before Today, GMA, etc. start at 7 A.M., news at noon, lots of news in the dinner hour(s), news at 10/11 P.M. and even Weekend Morning news. Plus the Fox stations keep adding news and even bigger CW and MY stations have news. TV keeps adding newscasts and personnel, and radio keeps cutting live, local news.

Something is wrong with this logic.

Radio in general is surrendering its position as THE place to go for breaking news to TV and the Internet.
But if that's the case they need to give us another reason to tune in.

Top40 "Lord" Gordon McClendon (Of KLIF, KILT KTSA, etc) said in the 60s, the only thing radio could beat TV on was music and news; especially instant coverage.....seems like all the players in radio forgot that nowadays....

It is a new low in Houston radio history. That you can depend on!

Amazing! Houston, market 6 deserves better than this.Clear channel runs the worst new/talk stations out of the big broadcasting companies.
Here in Connecticut market 50 CBS radio's WTIC news/talk 1080 has local live top and bottom of the hour news although overnights
may be on tape.

Am I the only one who noticed that the former imaging guy at Cheap Channel left town, and that Truth Sayer started posting in Chicago at exactly that point? I hear that certain imaging guy works in the Chicago market now altho not for cc. So ole Truth Sayer is mad at his former company, and now that he's not in the building he's spilling the beans? This topic has come up three different times in radio reunion circles, and we all know who it is. Tell all, they don't have you in golden handcuffs any more.

You have to remember, listeners and local news is NOT a priority. The shareholders and corporate profits ARE.

...and they wonder WHY radio is dying....what nerve!

Maybe somebody should inform their advertisers (as well as the rest of the community) of these shenanigans. How much bang for the buck are the advertisers going to get when the news station they advertise on can't even be bothered to pay attention to breaking local news that draws listeners in, and thus to their spots and instead drives listeners to the competition?

Sad, ugly....and TRUE.

People have the power. Local all news radio should NEVER be asleep at the wheel.....

Interesting reversal. Flash back to New Year's Eve 2000. There was a life threatening ice storm in the Dallas area. KTRH had travel warnings every ten minutes. What was the coverage on KRLD 1080 in Dallas? None - their staff was getting drunk at a New Year's Eve party while they ran a tape of some talk show. Not even one warning the whole evening.

For years afterward - I had a deep fringe AM setup in Lubbock, TX that was capable of rejecting the 740 in Carlsbad so I could hear KTRH and get weather warnings - and not try to travel into Dallas when the weather was life threatening. KRLD was a lot closer and easier to get, but KTRH proved itself to be a better news station!

Easy Money, we hardly knew ya!!!!!!

Did you get fired??????

If so, don't worry, we will not be laughing (out loud). Pride goeth before a fall, buddy.

No local news on the weekends...sorry!

Tuned to KTRH last Sunday afternoon when the sky turned black enough to make every street lamp switch on.
Well, no luck. Just some more pathetic canned crap.
What good would an EAS alert do if folks don't think of their radio sets as a viable source for news and information in the first place?

With Hogan running CC corporate, I hope the company sinks and dies...I see he assigned new RVPs recently..one of them, Tom Schurr, has his nose soo far up Hogan's rear, he would lose his mind if Hogan farts....which explains a lot of things...funny thing is Schurr was over the Houston Jacor properties...and then DFW (which he failed at miserably yet Hogan kept him on).....and I dont him being asked to go join Randy at Tribune...(Michaels is smarter than that I hope).....If this is the best CC can do, they deserve to suck and die...and that explains why KTRH and 950 are degrading rapidly...funny, for KTRH to be the LP1 and not send out a EAS alert??? I guess they figured the NWS would...so why repeat it??? DUH!!! I would not put the NWS crap on the air.....I would rather have a LIVE human read it....oh wait, thats right, CC Houston doesnt think that way...At least WBAP in DFW still does for now.....

CC= Crappy Company....I'll be glad when my stock is gone in them......(Luckily none of my 401k was stock....and my current employer just paid our additional 50cents on the dollar..on top of 75c/dollar they do through the year...oh yeah, my retirement fund looks a WHOLE lot better than it would at Crap Channel!)
