KTRH BILLBOARDS

Cheap Channel is taking News92 fairly seriously I would guess. Billboards have gone up that say BREAKING NEWS and then under the KTRH logo "NEWSRADIO 740" no longer "NEWS-TALK."

That is funny. When Herman Cain made the announcement about suspending his campaign, KROI carried it live and KTRH did not.
(not sure about KUHF..forgot to check)

Yes, and this is the first thing that came to mind. It's a quote from KTRH's Bryan Erickson, commenting about the first day of News 92FM:

"There’s obviously a clear difference between our two stations – We have a strong commitment to local news coverage and compelling talk and they’re still trying to figure out what they want to be."

Let's see, after five months of being "News Talk," KTRH is going back to calling itself "Newsradio" since they've figured out what they want to be?

Bryan is a Cheap Channel corporate suit and nothing more. It's really not all his fault, he has been drinking the CC Kool-Aid and is simply regurgitating the corporate line which, of course, is completely disingenuous on it's face. Soooo, does this mean MORE news on KTRH? Are they going to go on a hiring spree and re-build their tattered newsroom? Who, honestly, would make a career decision to work at KTRH in a news-role under the current regime?

KROI has their attention, without question, but the damage to their brand is beyond repair IMHO. KROI is doing all of the things a major market news station should do, minus a few hiccups which are to be expected. My money is on KROI as well.

Right after the Herman Cain live speech, I noticed there were multiple "glitches" that need to be addressed. For example, they had problems with live reports from Robertson Stadium and also there was a noticeable difference in Audio volume from pre-recorded interviews.

Several hours later, their audio sounded very dissorted. I hope they get this fixed.

Seems KROI woke up the sleeping giant. I'll keep my bets with News 92.
It sounds like 740 is running scared. They worked like mad to become what some of us can't stand, and may very well have shot themselves in the foot. I'll stay with News 92, where I don't have to listen to Michael Berry's nasal, whiny ranting.

I heard someone on 740 the other day reefer to Obama as "the president of the white house"

*face palm*

I am thinking that would be the First Lady. Could be wrong though.

I agree they've shot themselves, but I think it's a potentially fatal head wound.

Not sure where they recruited their new help from, but they had a girl reading a news story about the Star of Hope mission, downtown. She called it the "State of Hope". Heard quite a few faux pas like that over the past couple of weeks.

My point being, that if they're importing help from other parts of the country, they need to get a Houstonian on staff to advise and the rest of the news readers.

I don't get the whole Michael Berry thing. The guy is a racist, he pisses off entire demographics just opening his mouth.

IMHO it is his "ability" to piss people off that keeps him on the air. Cheap Channel has bought and paid for idiot-laced right wing talk and Berry fits the bill. I am more curious as to how he ascended the ladder to management positions at the Houston AM cluster? To my knowledge, his experience in broadcasting was nil before Cheap Channel Houston and his resume includes politics and lawyering. Dear Lord!
