KTRH NewsRadio 740

I believe the management tree at that time was station manager Michael Packer, program director Laura Morris and news director Melanie Miller.

Laura was the the PD at one time but was the GM at that point.....I believe the PD at the time was Pete Gardner.......but I am trying to also track down the News Director? If I remember correctly he was a dark-headed guy with a mustache...and that is all I remember...other than the fact he was a very good news director!

Michael Packer was GM in the 80s, and left for the west coast in 1988. On his way out the door, he promoted PD Laura Morris to General Manager.

Laura hired Pete Gardner to be PD. Gardner left sometime in 1990, so Laura put Bill Van Rysdam in as PD.

Melanie Miller was News Director from 1987 till sometime in the early 90s. When she left, Laura promoted Joe Izbrand to News Director.

I lose track after Izbrand. The last time I heard anything about him, he was in San Antonio, and a big deal PR muckety-muck with AT&T.

I was at KTRH as a reporter/editor/anchor from early 88 to the summer of 91, and I had the bad luck of being part of that horror show.

Absolutely, hands down, the worst three years of my life. You had to be there to believe that a major market news operation with so much money and resources could be as horribly managed as KTRH was in those years. No way you'd believe it could be that bad if you weren't there.

Tom Clendening, a hired gun from Seattle, took over as ND for Joe Izbrand in 2000. Clendening never unpacked his stuff and ended up back in Seattle a short time later. KTRH then hired Bryan Erickson from KTSA in San Antonio. He's been there since then, now as PD. I believe Roger Hudson is the ND and has been for a few years. Correct me if I'm wrong, but a guy named Mark Mosely(?) who came in from KFBK in Sacramento, was the GM for a while after Laura left. Could be wrong there. I think he's out of the radio business now, but still in Houston. The primer on KTRH history continues....
