KTRH North

KTRH Southeast

I don't doubt your word, but there's an even bigger colony of KTRH refugees right here in Houston. Have you listened to KUHF Houston Public Radio?

At one time, and up until just recently, KUHF had six former KTRH reporter/anchors covering local news in the NPR style. One of them recently retired, so the count now stands at five.

Those former KTRH'ers are part of what is now the largest radio news operation in Houston. It's worth noting that KTRH is no longer "KTRH News Radio." The radio rating service Arbitron no longer classifies KTRH as a "News Talk" station. It's now just a "Talk" station with regularly scheduled newscasts.

How the mighty have fallen. It's really sad to see a once great news station like KTRH fall to such a low estate.

Maybe you've all noticed the defection of KTRH news staff over the past few years, but apparently quite a few have made it up I-45 to the Dallas area.

Of course, that's too bad, as News Radio 740 ain't what it used to be.

Wow. I liked all of them in Houston, especially Bonnie Petrie. Always a very pleasant delivery. A bit off topic, whatever happened to Chris van Dusen (sp?)? I remember him anchoring KTRH overnight several years ago.

Filo, I couldn't agree with you more. KTRH was a vanguard station for so many years, and to see what it has morphed into is a shame. But it is interesting to see that some places think that news on the radio is still a viable option, and that many of my former colleagues have found homes doing what they do best -- news on the radio at both KUHF and in Dallas. I can't wait to see what KUHF does once the acquisition of KTRU is all said and done. It might be fun to listen to the radio again.
