KTRH trivia

Maybe I am confused some, though I still seem to remember something in the area associated with 1250 adjacent to that middle school, furthermore, while listening to Tee Bruce's final show there (now around 25 years ago) he made mention of working for the station from that area of town as well...........

The STUDIO was still at PA College (now the library building at Lamar Port Arthur)....the second tower of the original KPAC DA was where Woodrow Wilson stands...(though its been closed for a while)...1500 Proctor. When CC bought the AM/FM combo, they moved the AM studio to the transmitter site...(that was in 1978 or 79 iirc) I was at KAYC/KAYD when the FM flipped from elevator music to AOR (KAYD had flipped to Top40 the year before and it made front page of Billboard)... I worked there under CC as well after leaving KAYC/KAYD..laughed as I signed a NDA...???AHH folks this is BPT not NYC!!! The PD they brought in had NO clue....he never bothered to learn the local names, etc..and mispronounced a lot of them..the GM/engineer (Steve Smith) ended up marrying one of my high school classmates (she was almost 20yrs his junior)..they now are in S Oklahoma where he retired

And decent conductivity at the time...and the refinery on the north side of 87 had not grown to the monster it is now so the signal was still truly omni..when the 500 ft tower fell during Rita, Radio Maria took forever to get it back..and I BET they did not run a proof as required.....Entergy built a new substation right in the main lobe...and two high lines south cutting right into the pattern....with towers having ground wires abt 1/4 high.....so I BET the night pattern is NOT meeting specs..but with the plant build out, its probably keeping the northern signal below the limits allowed! Little Rock's and KC's 1250 have not complained...so I have a guess that a lot of the night signal is going out over the Gulf..

BTW ran KLVI in omni mode at times after midnight...yes that 560 DID get out...WQAM in Miami would be calling on the hotline bitching about hearing us in their headphones

I work across the road from the 1250 transmitter site. Not sure that any studios exist there, but the front wall is always nicely gang graffiti covered.

No local studios....they USED to be there when CC had it. The stupid thing about that wall is it blocked the windows from being seen and sure enough, the windows are all broken out and the inside was vandalized (which is a shame...that building still had the old RCA xmtr in it and probably some important history of the station); the transmitter and phasor are no longer in the main building; the "shipping container" storage off the side blacktop road has them in it.......when Radio Maria took it over, they filed for a waiver (the local records are at St James Catholic Church in Port Arthur) and its operated as a non commercial station.
