KTRH vs KROI

"I'm just sick of the KTRH bashing. It seems to me that most of the people in these KROI lovefest threads either hate conservatives, or hate conservative talk, or KTRH because they worked there and were run out, or were never able to get a job there, or whatever".

I am a conservative.... never worked at KTRH (nor applied)... nor run out... Just a listener who remembers KTRH back in the day when it lived up to the name "News Radio" and, glad to see that Radio One realized that there is a need for an all news station in the Houston area. I listen to it 90% of the time when I am in the car, the other 10%... turn off the car stereo and listen to internet radio on my smartphone (there dang sure ain't much out there on terrestrial radio for the forgotten baby boomers... except KROI... for me anyway).

Now if you'd like to hear me rant about Radio One... just talk about the merits of them canning KFMK in 91 and bringing in "The Boxx"... to me that is a waste of air space (but...of course we all have opinions and I'm sure there are a lot of folks out there who have one that differs from mine).

As for the critic, it seems they just don't care for KROI for some reason in addition to what is stated here...just a guess, mind you.

I'm just sick of the KTRH bashing. It seems to me that most of the people in these KROI lovefest threads either hate conservatives, or hate conservative talk, or KTRH because they worked there and were run out, or were never able to get a job there, or whatever.

KTRH has been pretty much the same animal it is now the entire time I've lived in Houston. The only thing I really don't like about the station is the Astros. I feel radio stations should be like your favorite restaurant. If I want a burger and the KTRH "restaurant" has the burger I like, I don't like being told they're only serving watermelon throughout baseball season.

Frankly, all news radio bores me terribly, so I have little use for KROI in general. I do find it disingenuous that they go on air and promote themselves as politically neutral, when everyone I personally know that works there is a hardcore lefty. At least KTRH is honest about their political leanings. Maybe that's why the station isn't catching on. All these seasoned, well known personalities are known in real life by too many Houstonians for the station to have any credible claim of neutrality. I'm Facebook friends with several of them, and if I see a repost from "We survived Bush, you'll survive Obama" come across my screen, odds are one of them was the reposter.

I'm not sure I'd say they're all "hardcore leftys" at KROI because I too know many of the staffers there, and I guarantee there are some big righties there too. Still, you can't deny that there is much less of a political slant to their news than over on KTRH. I don't think I've ever known of any news outlet to be 100% unbiased, at least not since I've been around to pay attention. But I do know from personal experience that if you write an unbiased story at KTRH about, for example, President Obama, you'll be told that you're not painting the president in enough of a negative light, and the story has to be re-written. (Proudly no longer employed at that toxic station)

I think there are too many listeners out there who don't have two brain cells to rub together, thus they take the word of KTRH as gospel and any deviation from that is deemed nothing more than "leftist slop." And on that same note, anything that doesn't come out of other side's speakers from the dreadfully boring NPR is immediately "right-wing lunacy." That's a big problem these days. Real, unbiased news is virtually non-existent on any station.

Still, my personal opinion is that KROI does it better than either of their competitors.
