KTRH

I guess once you go no one will ever speak to you again.

Hi Liz,

I'm glad you posted a message in here. I had a similiar experience within the CC building --- respected one month; gone, the next, and the professional relationships (you thought you had) suddenly evaporated the minute you hit the door.

I was dropped, all together, with no further contact, too. In fact, messages I sent, with a return-receipt to see if they'd been read, went unread, and the return-receipts came back to me, stating my messages were not even opened.

All I can say from my own experience, nothing these days surprises me, especially coming from CC or the management in the building. Someone once jokingly told me that it is rumored the building is built over ancient Indian burial grounds and you know what happens, then. ;D

Keep your chin up, girl. The pain is real now (and it should be); in the end, you'll land on your feet and be just fine, wherever the road leads you. I was fine and I still am! You will be, too.

Well there is nothing more I can do. I tried to get my job back and like I said I left everyone messages etc. When they let my non compete go then I knew it was over. I need to know how worthy I am. Everyone keeps saying how valuable I am and yes I've been doing radio for sixteen years because I don't give up and I try hard yet when I offer to try to make peace no one wants that. I am overwhelmed with support on here yet writing to my so called friends at clear channel and not hearing back was a shock. I teach my students everyday that someday you'll need them so never neglect or burn a bridge!

CC has a policy of telling employees NOT to talk to fired former employees....been there, had that done to me in a market larger than Houston...One of the guys who later was let go emailed me and we have kept in contact; told me market manager informed everyone not to talk or contact me period (found out why later...I missed out on a chance to sue them for everything they owned and then some)...we are both happy we are not putting up with the CC BS and the backstabbing that management loves to do...dont get me wrong, I had friends there I enjoyed working with...but management is the worse I have ever run across in my years of employment.
My current job, I have little problems (some but liveable) with the boss, he is happy with my work and I got a 10% bonus this year...go figure.....(oh and the 401K pays 75cents on the dollar...with additional 50cents on the dollar discretionary at the end of the year and has paid that the last 5 years.....yeah, I think my carreer is much better where I am at now; my CC stock has gone from 70/share to 100/share down to 28/share at low end.....I wish I could tell the BoDs directly what I think of their crappy management)

Where's Easy Money to defend this reprehensible behavior by CC?! Hope it all works out for you Elizabeth. Company Loyalty means nothing these days.

I had fairly much figured some policy about not talking with ex-employees was the reason why all contact with me was shut off completely. Thanks for letting me know about this; somehow, I missed that memo.

I guess while I was affiliated with CC, I was too blind to see the way they really operate. Now that I'm away from the free-fall (as it has been over there lately) and have read all the horror stories you've all shared here, I see how much better off I am. All I can do now is scratch my head as to why I gave them those precious years of my life?

Here's a toast to all of us who've been canned by them for the sake of being better off! There's one thing about it, CC doesn't want to "make peace" nor do they give a rats behind about anything other than themselves. Thinking that loyalty matters in today's radio era is a complete waste of time; I learned that lesson, the hard way. Told how respected you are at Thanksgiving; out the door by President's Day.... it's a way of life for some, but no longer for me!

I got out in 2000. Never had the pleasure of working for CC, but I worked for another equally horrible media company that had a pension for praising employees on Thursday and firing them on Friday. I was fortunate enough to be recruited by a high paying high tech company that failed after a year. Had the opportunity to go back to radio or TV, but chose my own way. It's much harder work, but you don't have to put up with any b.s. from unqualified managers and if you make it you get all the pride and if you fail you have no one to blame, but yourself.

My suggestion to you successful media folks that got caught up in all this consolidation b.s.: find your own way in your own business. If you were successful in a crappy profession like media, you'll do just fine in your own thing, related to media or not. Just trust yourselves.

AdGuy,

I'll AMEN your comments. For a brief time in my life, I made my own success in the crappy media profession, but it was not what I was meant to do. Management didn't need to hold my hand or pat me on the back, during my radio time; I found my own "pleasure" in the business by myself.... no thanks to the high-ranking management "pricks," as Elizabeth put it.

Media was what I had "wanted" to do, at the time, but there comes a point when I feel we all have to stop doing what we "want" to do and pursue the career paths we're "meant" to do. That "path" for me was not at CC and it took being shown the door and being tossed aside like a worn-out shoe to realize that much.

The road to moving past the anger, hurt, and pain inflicted by CC's management and policies was bumpy and slow to cross, but I have found my "calling" and now have a wonderful position, away from media, pursuing my other (and greater) passion.... writing. I'm also making plans to start my own business and include my writing into the effort.

I miss the professional "friendships" I formed with those no longer able to contact me and I'll always remember the few moments of radio that I really enjoyed, but for me, anyway, I've reached a point of peace. Radio was one stop for me. I stopped, I wore out my welcome, I was abruptly told to leave, and I moved on. That's all anyone can do and I'm more at peace knowing that I'm not the only one who feels the way I do about it.

Easy Money - in the industry standard dayparts KTRH ranks #6 AM, #4 MD & #11 PM. I'm sure the Astros will help your overall cume numbers but not much with ratings. Source: Feb 2008 6+ PPM (Adults 25-54). Keep living the good life!

Elizabeth, Bill Ingram here; I worked with you at Metro Traffic in the early to mid '90's.

(Remember Roadwatch America? or maybe the Blingram Christmas songs?)

You are extremley talented, so don't let this set back get the better of you.

You are in my prayers.

I'm just a fan, not actually in the radio industry right now, and I'll say I enjoyed listening to your traffic reports in the morning not only on 740 but on the other stations. It's nice to know who's giving you info on the morning drive and evening commute ... Lana (or Bonnie Petrie) and JP on news, Ted DeLuca on sports and you or Eddie Barton on traffic. Everyday listeners do form something of a bond with those they listen to; that's why they listen!
Good luck and I'm sure everything will turn out well for you.

OK whats happening here...

I just checked their website and saw the news team page is MUCH slimmer than it was a few days ago. Several reporters, with the exception of John Labus and Steve Crowder, are GONE from the website...

Anyone know what's happening???

I think all of those reporters are still at KTRH. When they switched CC web templates, I noticed that pages with large amounts of info (like the staff page) got truncated in length.

Also, if you look on their e-mail page you'll notice the people in question are still listed.
