KTSA Afternoons

According to T Ware this morning at 7AM, there will be schedule changes at KTSA as of Monday, 03/23/09. The noon newshour is gone. T Ware 7-10 AM followed by JR 10 AM - 1PM. The rest of the day's schedule remains the same. Cost cutting was the reason for eliminating the noon newshour. But how expensive is it to read mindless fluff from the National Enquirer or the internet? One would have assumed that KTSA would have used this hour to provide more in depth local news and news about our neighborhoods. But what can one expect from a station attempting to cater to our very literate and educated populace?

This move probably means Jill Christie is out of a job. AFAIK, that was the only show she worked on at KTSA. That's the cost that was cut. :(

In fairness, when KTSA first rolled it out, this noon newscast was a lot like the noon news on KGNB in New Braunfels... chock full of 10-minute interviews with newsmakers and local government officials. Maybe not the most scintillating radio fare, but certainly a positive contribution to the community.

In the last month or so, the noon news began to feature more of the aforementioned tabloidy news of the weird. I figure that was an effort to goose the demographics in a particular direction.

I have trouble finding fault with anyone who puts more news on a news/talk station. As journalists all over the country are losing their jobs, the last thing this market needs is another hour of "we'll be taking your calls" to discuss the controversial issue of the day. :'(

Jeanne Jakle says Jill Christie was moved to the position of weekday reporter and fill-in anchor, the position formerly held by Daniel Farias who was let go.

WOAI: Charlie Parker, Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Dennis Miller, George Noory

KTSA: Trey Ware, Dave Ramsey, Kevin Wall, Clark Howard, Jim BoHannon, Mark Levin

Now really who do you think is going to win this battle?
