KTSA Program Time Changes

Today KTSA announced some changes.

Jack Riccardi is going back to nights. Is there anyone in radio more boring than Jack?

There might be, and I think they found him. Dave Ramsey will move from nights to 1 PM - 4 PM (I think).

He might be one of the few people in radio (besides Rush and Dr. Laura) even more boring than Jack.

Does anyone listen to Jack Riccardi or Dave Ramsey? They said they are doing this to bring Dave Ramsey on live instead of recorded.

I am a fan of Brad Messer so I listen to the show before him so that I do not miss any of his show but the show before him usually puts me to sleep. Brad is moving up to 11 AM - 1 PM and I think Ricci Ware will be from 9 AM - 11 AM.

I must be boring, then. I like Jack Riccardi's show. Although I still haven't forgiven him for his Monday-after-Katrina show where he basically called all of the people on rooftops in New Orleans idiots for staying behind when there was a mandatory evac order. His tune changed 180 degrees in the following days, but I never heard an apology or an acknowledgment that he was wrong.

In Jack's defense, I got several good tips on books from his show - and I always enjoyed his Friday segment "The Dish" where callers give their opinions of S A restaurants.

I like Dave Ramsey and Dr. Laura, too... albeit in small doses. It's fun to hear callers get reamed out on the radio for problems that I don't have. The 7PM time slot was perfect for me, since I don't want to hear Ramsey morethan a couple of times a month.

I guess we can agree on the entertainment value of Rush Limbaugh, but to me, that shrill sycophant Glenn Beck is boring.

Can't get excited about the new morning dose of Ricci Ware. I think he's the only personality at that station more opinionated than Jack, but Jack's guests are far more entertaining. Two hours of his homespun folksiness was OK, but I think I will be listening to music if that's KTSA's new mainstay for the morning.

If we have to listen to an old-school ideologue, KTSA should give us Dr. Laura! ;)

I agree with you on that part. It is the only time that I can stand to listen to Jack.

** that shrill sycophant Glenn Beck is boring

Again, I agree with you. I don’t listen to Glenn Beck.

I listened to Ricci in the 1960s when he played music. I was surprised that he is so red neck/conservative/Republican. I would have expected a Rock & Roll dj to be more liberal. I am not a “fan” of Ricci but I am a “listener”. I rarely if ever agree with anything he says but I listen to him “by default” since there is nothing else on the radio at that time. I am a fan of “local” radio so I don’t listen to the national programs very often.

Ricci Ware is going to share the first hour of his 9-11AM show with Trey and do the second hour solo.

This is per Jeanne Jakle's column in the Express-News today. (Not yet posted to mysa.com, or I'd link it.)

Maybe Trey's blandness will make Ricci more palatable in the morning.

daypart,

I have only listened to Trey Ware for about an hour total (if that much) and was not impressed. As much as I disagree with Ricci I think he is more interesting than Trey. I will probably listen to them so I don’t forget to change the station to Brad Messer. WOAI has Glen Beck on during that time and both of us agree that he is boring. What other choice is there? Is it time to investigate satellite radio? I am more interested in local radio so I don’t know if anything on satellite radio would be interesting. What will you be listening to during that time period?

I haven't decided yet. I may grit my teeth and listen to the Ware Pair or I may check out Eliza Sonneland on KAHL. I liked some aspects of her show on KTSA, except for the regular yawn-inducing health segments. The oldies music that airs during KAHL's non-talk hours makes me think I'm too young for their target demographics, though.

Since I spend most of my time on the north side, I've flipped the car radio over to FM lately and rediscovered BOB-FM in San Marcos. Once I start hearing songs repeated there for the second and third time, I'll go elsewhere on the dial for entertainment. I don't spend enough time on the road to justify the investment in satellite radio and hauling a portable sat radio in and out of my vehicle feels too much like the bad old days of the 90's when I had to hook up a portable CD player in the vehicle to listen to CDs!

On a related note, it crossed my mind yesterday that there was a time about 3 weeks ago when Jack Riccardi started off his show in a fit of rage over something that another staffer at the station had done. He refused to say what had happened, but he wondered aloud how certain people at KTSA keep their jobs.

Monday was the first that Jack acknowledged the impending schedule change on the air. He was telling callers who asked about it that he was like an assembly-line worker at an auto plant - he doesn't get to make decisions about when he works or what he does, he just reports for duty and punches the time clock.

I wonder if there's a connection between his rage and these moves. :)
