KTSF San Francisco Seeks Asian Viewers in Sacramento

In this case KTSF San Francisco is advertising the Vuit app for Sacramento viewers. Note for now KTSF is not advertising any Sacramento specific newscasts for now. If one is wondering why KTSF San Francisco is doing this is for demo reasons. Turns out one of the counties in KTSF's viewing area is split between Sacramento and San Francisco is one factor.

Sacramento viewers can access KTSF programming free via VUit, Syncbak’s local TV streaming service. KTSF has been one of the most popular channels on VUit.

KTSF says Sacramento has about 663,904 Asian-American viewers. Between them the San Francisco and Sacramento markets have more than 2.8 million Asian-American consumers in 920,340 Asian-American households between the San Francisco and Sacramento markets. That would top the number of such viewers in Los Angeles or New York.

Many Asians in the Sacramento DMA have moved there from the San Francisco Bay Area, and are already familiar with KTSF and its ability to bring important content to Asian consumers in the Capital Region, the station said.

Commerce and transportation across San Francisco and Sacramento are closely intertwined and interdependent, with a large component of Sacramento Asian-Americans working for and commuting to jobs throughout the Bay Area, KTSF said.
Also this one people from the North San Joaquin Valley Commuting to San Jose for work reasons is a factor here.

Also the Northern California MegaRegion is mentioned here as a factor.

Here is the other factor that lead to KTSF going in this direction aiming for Sacramento viewers. This is similar to how Paramount and Nexstar have TV stations in both Sacramento and Bay Area.

What was once a traffic issue snarling peak commuting hours has become a customary inconvenience that’s been further exacerbated by a population shakeup in recent years as more people moved eastward from San Francisco. As previously reported, the top in-state destination for people leaving the Bay Area was Sacramento.
“During regular M-F weekday commute hours, the morning and evening commutes along I-80 in Solano County seem to be increasing,” Jacala said. “That’s because more people seem to be buying more affordable homes in places like Vallejo, Fairfield, Vacaville and Dixon. Then commuting to either the Bay Area or Sacramento.”

The trend is supported by available traffic data. Transportation analytics firm Inrix shared numbers with SFGATE focused on I-80 between I-680 and Interstate 505 for weekdays from 2019 to 2022. The firm found that eastbound evening traffic has worsened since 2019, adding a 5% increase in travel time.
