KTSW-89.9 San Marcos

I was at the Texas St.- Cal Poly playoff game last Saturday and had my headphones on listening to the game on KTSW, the University radio station. The signal was OK, but would fade from time to time when I would turn my head. I was wondering why a college radio station would have signal problems right on campus??? Later, I looked on Radio-Info and realized that their transmitter is near New Braunfels, some 20 miles away from campus!

I am wondering as to why KTSW's transmitter is so far away from the University? Were they unable to find a place closer to campus?

I believe they moved their transmitter to allow for an upgrade of another station. It seems like it ran lower power but was right on campus when it signed on only to move a year or two later.

With my antenna going towards San antonio (pointed almost direct to the tower) I can even sometimes get KBNL 89.9 from Laredo but they have a pretty decent power for a college station though.
