KTTV to Launch 8:00 and 9:00 PM Newscasts on KCOP

Looks like other cities could be adding 8PM & 9PM newscast where the FOX O&Os having sister stations which could come to NYC, CHI etc.

I mentioned this on this and / or other discussions boards & people expressed concerns that there's too much local news on local TV as it is already. I think this will be they way local TV will become, just local news & sports becaus viewers are tired of watching reruns on television, when not airing network programming, especially when they can find reruns on streaming services that many do have subscriptions to. People can watch whatever whenever they choose to.

In the NY market, WWOR-TV/My9 currently re-runs the 6:00 PM WNYW/Fox5 newscast at 8:00PM. While it might be nice to have a live newscast at 8:00, I am not sure what would happen in the 3 hours between 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM to warrant another live newscast. I suppose that Fox could always replace the My9 repeat with a live newscast if there was breaking news that warranted it.

I should correct myself. Earlier, I mentioned that people can watch whatever whenever they choose to, as long as they can afford to do so. They're many people that rely on over the air channels to get entertainment and information. Their choices are getting limited every day when local channels only provide information with news instead of both news & entertainment.

For only over-the-air, there’s a plethora of antenna-receivable digital networks. News works for stations because it’s a differentiator. If the costs are spread out and you make use of existing staff, and you keep all the ad money, it’s a potentially easy call.

The digital networks consists of a majority of reruns

I can understand the financial side for stations, but I just wanted to point out the limited choices people have if they don't subscribe to a certain platform to watch certain type of program or original programming

Since kcop will now air news in primteime at least on weeknights, will they consider putting news on kcop on weekend mornings as well? It appears the stations want to expand their newscasts.

That's always a possibility we'll see what happens maybe they will maybe they won't
