KTU Already Responding?

I just heard the boys on KTU say that they're bringing back war of the roses and the friday happy hour (I can't remember but I'm assuming this was their 5oclock whistle mix show)
Looks like their trying to take the AC out of HOT AC.
Hang on tight...looks like radio's gonna get fun again!

Why bother bringing back the War of the Roses? Yes, they were comical however, it was better on the former B&G morning show and secondly... their sister station, z-100 outed the truth on the war of the roses. They're fake. They're actors doing this. I don't know if the Ramesh and Partiti was real or fake, but it was damn funny.

A pissing contest between KTU and Pulse would be fun to hear. It's entertaining when stations make fun of each other on the air, up to a point. KTU and Mix 102.7 got into a pissing contest, and that resulted in KTU sounding much worse than Mix 102.7 after "winning". War Of The Roses won't hold a candle to Star and Buc Wild, which still has a big following. And in the office, after Pulse starts streaming, signal strength doesn't matter. Even commercials don't matter.
Bring back all the mixshows, including the Saturday Night Dance Factory (and let the DJs spin real dance/techno). Add dance remixes of pop songs, and current dance hits like it used to (such as Amuka - Appreciate Me soon after it was released). Take out the slow songs, and a lot of the overplayed disco.

At least KTU can't call itself New York's Dance Music Leader anymore.

They can bring back "War Of The Roses". They can even bring back Baltazar and pair him with Cubby. But the bottom line is, if 'KTU feels, somehow, that they are taking some sort of "hit" because of Pulse 87 then musically they have to do something. And no..not play Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff" for the 1,034,211th time today.

But then again, 'KTU's ratings have actually gone UP since they did the tweak. If CC is happy with that, then good for them! Goes back to something I said before...choice! For those of us that wants today's dance music, we have Pulse. For those that want the classics, there is 'KTU.

No bashing 'em! Time for healthy competition to begin!

I'm okay with this, unless Pulse beats WKTU in the ratings. That maybe hard to happen with the signal limitation of Pulse. But bring on the competition anyway as we listeners benefit.

They can call themselves the dance music leader until another station playing dance beats them in the ratings and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

How can they call themselves the dance music leader if they don't play dance music? Disco isn't current dance.

well were does it say current dance in calling themselves the "Dance Music Leader" there is more to dance than current music. whether you like it or not, disco is dance... and just because they mix old and new, doesn't mean its not dance. Go to most bars these days and its a mix of new and old songs remixed and mashed, its no fluke that ktu got a bump in the ratings when they tweaked to its current format.

Would most of us like to see more current dance of course, but we're diehards, most people couldn't name you five current true dance artists, as its a lost format, their ideas would most likely be just pop stars and ktu palys the current pop rhythmic dance remixes.

Amen!!! finally somebody gets it

How bout this? Now with Dance Rivalry Heating up. Does Hot97 continue easing more Rhythmic, Adding some Dance type tracks? Go Back to a Full Urban Setup? Or does this not affect them at all?

Indirectly, what is happening at Pulse IS affecting Hot 97. I couldn't help but to hear Hot 97 as of late and it seems as if there is a lot more "rhythmic" R&B and "rhythmic" hip-hop going on. It has been said that hip-hop has been suffering as of late and perhaps by "reinventing" themselves back towards a danceable style, they could be competing. I haven't seen the effect on Power 105.1 yet but who knows?

Of course they can't name you 5 current dance artists. There is no airplay of any current dance artists in this country. No promotion, no airplay = no knowledge.
It's all about exposure. Anyone who follows dance knows it's mass appeal in Europe. It's all over the radio there. I'd bet a European could name you 5 current dance artists.

Why is anyone taking pulse seriously...they play ten songs.

It's only been 9 days...uhhh, can we give them some time to add more?? And think about this, when 'KTU launched, only 2 NEW songs made the list.

I've read the quote before this and was going to chime my two cents here. The station IS new and even though for non-diehards that can't name artists yet...that WILL change! Once they get on-air personalities there, they will voice up the song title and artist.

I wasn't talking about the few pulse listeners, I was talking about people in the general population. If dance was popular, there would be outlets and exposure, but there isn't. When the groundswell comes from the ground up, the radio play will follow... I just don't see the big dance scene right now, even in clubs, thats creating a sound... most clubs are playing pop and hip hop remixes.

I understand now. And that's where groups such as mine have to really PUSH things and create awareness. Right now we're on the beginnings of a campaign to get to Philadelphia and Boston. And yes, the success (or failure) of Pulse within the radio industry can make (or break) this. We just have to push harder and harder somehow to get people aware, in the general population, about dance music. Just because we've landed Pulse 87, our mission is FARfrom over.

I totally agree...a majority of the current dance right now is coming from across the pond. I am happy to see hex hector back on the scene with his Taylor Dayne remix..but it seems that US dance has been pretty quiet. I remember a few years ago we were all complaining that most of the dance tracks were remixed r & b...that's even quiet now. US dance will pick up--it always does...everything goes in a cycle

Justin, did you say the few Pulse listeners?

I was on 135th Street (at Lenox Ave.) in Harlem last night. People were talking about Star and Buc Wild's return in almost every store that I walked into. A lot more than a few people.

Star & Buc Wild are hardly indictive of the station as a whole... the music and feel of the station is completely different when they are on. Not a bad thing, but not a music lovers choice of shows.

Though I was refering to the listeners in terms of the signal limitations. I live in manhattan and I can't get it, AND I want to, so I'd assume that hurts listening numbers, you aren't just going to stumble on it! Also, anyone else in a compact area of brick and concrete would have issues with the signal, as well as people in big steel and concrete towers like myself; even though my apt faces east I still can't get it and I assume thats because of all the buildings in Manhattan that interfere.
