KTU Already Responding?

Why is anyone taking pulse seriously...they play ten songs.

only 10 songs? Definitely not. I'm a pretty big listener of the station so far and have heard a lot more than just 10 new songs and current remixed songs combined. I can get a list together if you like, but I've probably noticed so many songs cause I've been listening so much, lol... Seriously though, they have a pretty good thing going musically speaking so far and I only see that getting better. It's been one week, come on...(and as far as the signal thing), I do believe they said yesterday on the morning show that they are working on expanding the signal..hopefully that includes more of Manhattan...I would think it does.... we'll see....and if all else fails for now, you definitely have the live stream to listen to....

I wasn't talking about the few pulse listeners, I was talking about people in the general population. If dance was popular, there would be outlets and exposure, but there isn't. When the groundswell comes from the ground up, the radio play will follow... I just don't see the big dance scene right now, even in clubs, thats creating a sound... most clubs are playing pop and hip hop remixes.

I've said this before and it may be a ridiculous analogy but look at how many cd's Madonna's last album (all dance) sold and how it got little to no airplay.
So let's just say that album was popular but there were no outlets to hear it on.

My take is that dance could be popular but it has NO exposure. How can it get popular if it has no exposure??

I understand now. And that's where groups such as mine have to really PUSH things and create awareness. Right now we're on the beginnings of a campaign to get to Philadelphia and Boston. And yes, the success (or failure) of Pulse within the radio industry can make (or break) this. We just have to push harder and harder somehow to get people aware, in the general population, about dance music. Just because we've landed Pulse 87, our mission is FARfrom over.

Wouldn't it be better to advocate to get Pulse on a grade A signal than to campaign for dance in Philly and Boston already? Pulse is on 87.7 and has a bad signal. While I'm thrilled we have Pulse I don't see it as having "arrived" dance wise for NYC.
Pulse isn't even listed at Radio-locator.com.
We need something better than Pulse for exposure. Pulse is a start but I'd be happier with Pulse 92.3.

Philly has an outlet, actually it has two. Z 889 and WMPH in Wilmington. You can get Z 88.9 in most of the city in the car and it covers almost all of South Jersey. WMPH has a decent signal right outside of Philly. Both have a very good following. Both have done numerous shows and both have been very successful. Z88.9 even has Glenn Kalina.

Well I think the idea probably will be something like seeing how well the station does on the frequency that it's on now for starters and then in a year or so ( if even that), getting enough money to move to a better frequency. I think it's safe to say that if this station is successful enough, the frequency will change. The big names putting all this together wouldn't have done so if they didn't have some tricks up their sleeves, otherwise why would they bother wasting their money, time and energy.

In the meantime, soon advertising campaigns around the city will start to begin to build more awareness (per PD Joel Salkowitz), and I'm willing to bet those same ads are going to also point people towards pulse87.com (for those who can't get it in that well). Secondly, they are working on building on their existing signal to be stronger (as mentioned on the first morning of the star and buckwild show). Those who remember HOT 103 back in the 80s, will recall that at a certain point it switched to HOT 97 due to at the time 103.5 not being the strongest signal. So give it time...

Pulse JUST launched a few days ago. Mega Media Group is a NEW player in the industry. I know they are aware of the signal issues and they WILL do something about it. I am confident that they will. You have to be patient (check out my rant on my MySpace blog when you get the chance...it's about "hate").

I mean, doesn't this sound better than what we've had before? Don't killjoy it.

Let's not be short sighted as many dance fans tend to be. The big names did not sign on to Pulse because they intend to stay on 87.7 on the radio dial. This is a testing ground for bigger plans in the works. For all those who want to hear NEW dance music on the radio whether in NY or in the US,we have to RALLY around Pulse. Ok, thats my motivational speech for the day ;D

Tony..I think you know how happy I am we have Pulse so I don't want to be a killjoy. While I'm confident Mega Media has a plan and will hopefully grow I jst felt like it might be better to continue to campaign for dance in NYC. rather than already trying to advocate in cities that would be typically less dance friendly. That's only my 2 cents so it's just my thought.

If KTU brings back their so called "dance factory", it will be on their terms. and besides...nobody wants to listen to a mixshow that cuts into commercials every 25 minutes.

All mixes should be live in the clubs.

Remember Glenn Friscia and the former Original Saturday Night Dance Party on Hot 97?

That show was the best ever.
