KTU Buys Time on Pulse87

Yesterday I heard spots on Pulse87 for KTU's Beatstock, with no mention of KTU. When accessing LiveNation for tickets, it's still labeled as WKTU's Beatstock. Very interesting!!

Beatstock must not be selling enough tickets and they need to do whatever it takes to sell that thing out. So they're attracting listeners from other stations to come join in on the fun. Pulse 87 needs money, I don't think they're refuse other radio stations from advertising their own events.

Pulse 87 will not say no to any source of revenue at this point. The Beatstock ads came on around the same time as the Thicker and Wider ad came back. If they find a penny on the sidewalk outside the studio, they will take it (that's worth 2 shares of MMDA).

It's also a safe bet that everyone that listens to Pulse 87 is already well aware of KTU's existence. An ad for Beatstock on Pulse 87 isn't really very likely to drive listeners away to 103.5...they already know it's there, and most probably have it in their presets as well. I wouldn't say the same thing if it were the other way around though...a hypothetical Pulse 87 event being advertised on KTU...since there's probably a good portion of KTU's huge sea of listeners who still have no idea 87.7 exists.

I think a radio station has the right to refuse any ads except political ads. For political ads, they must either accept all parties or not accept any political ads. But radio stations usually don't say no to money so they accept most ads. The only way Pulse 87 will be able to advertise its existence on KTU is to create its own political party as a shell for advertisements under the equal time rule, which has never been done. Or fly a banner plane over Beatstock, which is what it did last year. But we know that Mega Media has no money to even buy a banner for a plane this year.

To turn it on a TV angle, competing cable and standard networks often buy time on other cable/standard networks to promote programming, just as long as the time and date aren't listed on the spot (you get "check local listings" instead). So for Beatstock to air on Pulse 87, no shock...makes sense actually just as long as 'KTU isn't mentioned.

while WKTU, and more recently Clear Channel NYC as a whole (Z100 and KTU mostly) have always been involved in the promotion and marketing end of Beatstock, is not actually a radio station event. It's a Vito Bruno production (and often advertised as such). There is nothing to stop him from going and buying time on any station to promote an event he is putting together.

I believe KTU pays a lot of money to attach its name to the event. Pulse 87 could have outbid KTU, but where would they get the money from?

prob trade...but i doubt pulse will give away beatstock tickets on air

KTU's Beatstock, KTU's Freestyle Free For All and KTU dubbed events from Vito Bruno are often also advertised on TV and Radio throughout Jersey and even in Philly. So this is no shock... you want 40,000 dance fans you buy spots everywhere dance fans may be listening... KTU, Z, Pulse, My106.1, Q102, wherever.
