Here's the thing....
With MIX struggling to find some sort of format for the one's that were failing (i.e. : Blink, Christmas, etc.) they are sticking HARD on classic dance since it was better than what they were doing before (though, I remember RIGHT after they got out of Hot Talk, they were doing CHR, and if I recall, they were getting a bit of ratings with it and giving Z-100 mini competition).
I have read other posts ahead of this one regarding heritage, etc and why KTU should stay the course with classic dance and hope that 'NEW fails. One advantage 'KTU has is that they aren't "pigeonholed" with having to stay classic dance. They CAN be diverse with the dance music umbrella. With that, and this may shock, by NO means should 'KTU dump the disco/Hot 103-97 type freestyle...but they have to UP the current dance. Just as one time, disco and freestyle were BRAND NEW MUSIC (yep, there was a time where NO ONE ever heard of Judy Torres, George Lamond, Lime, Bee Gees....well, as a "disco" group as opposed to their folksy sound of the early 70's), the current offerings by groups such as Lasgo, DHT, etc. will be vital as "future classics" for the dance genre. Granted this may sound more philosophical than business oriented, but just as Hot 103/97 and the original 'KTU made monies off a new sound, the current 'KTU could profit...IF they leaned on a 65-35% current format. I am NOT saying ALL current dance on the regular spectrum...just more than what they are doing.
MIX will not touch much current unless someone prominent like Mariah or Donna Summer does something.
