KTU FAIL

WNTIRadio said:
When Michael Jackson died, KTU played all Michael Jackson songs for the entire weekend. Same thing with Whitney Houston. Why didn't KTU do something similar today?

I may start a firestorm when I say this, but I don't think Donna Summer was on the same level as MJ or Whitney Houston. She was a disco artist. MJ was much more than that (musically speaking) and Whitney Houston was enormous for 20 or so years.

I would disagree that Donna Summer was just a disco artist. If you compare her to Whitney Houston, she holds up very well. That being said, I don't believe she had the same impact as MJ. And Donna never got into trouble in the tabloid press..much as Whitney did and with drugs in her system at the end, that trouble continued. Unfortunately our society gives more creedence to those who get into trouble than those who stay clean and live above board.

It may not be terrestrial radio but this Sunday (5-20) on my "New Music Spotlight With Tony Santiago" show on Party Radio USA, for the second hour I am devoting it to Donna Summer's music and legacy. (7PM - New York Time)

The station everyone bitched at for playing disco instead of currents to survive 5 years ago, now didn't play enough disco in a row to honor Donna Summer. I'm 35, and to be honest, I don't remember KTU at 92... I mean I've seen the commercials and stuff on youtube, but I don't remember it first hand... I remember MTV starting and Z100 then my freshman year in college KTU burst on the scene as a dance station - the rest is just radio geek heritage and not reality... the public thinks of KTU as the Beat of New York -- not NY's disco station - they haven't played it now in years.

(sorry for the delay, I was on vacation!)
