KTU Gets Rid of Mixshows

And You thought they couldn't sink any lower?

Were will New York turn to for Dance music? WNEW sure isn't stepping up.

Its one thing not the have Dance music in NY. Its another thing not to have it on the Weekend nights too...

I dont understand it myself? In Chicago, they didnt get rid of the mix shows, but they got them mixing tired radio old skool crap. Farley left V103 because he could not play the music he was known for-House. He has a Strong name in the market- they claimed when he played dance music, he got the lowest ratings....

There is a great divide when it comes to the masses and the arbitron reporters. When I play house at my parties, folks fill the floor when I play what radio says is popular no one gets on the floor.

I think people want to hear it, but PD are listening to "bone head" consultants and not the people who want to hear it......

Sure, people want to hear mixshows, but regarding the PD and consultants, the PDs hands are "tied" since the consultants are actually working under the auspices of upper management (as in the company directly).

'KTU went through an entire "purge" regarding currents. Mix is having its own issues as they possibly "progress" over to the "Movin" format. No doubt for NY dance fans this is a rough time...I hear it all of the time as more members have joined up with the coalition. Just these past three days alone...240 members!

That says something

I've read that KTU doesn't even host mixshows on the weekend anymore.
Why not try and appeal to Z-100 to step in? Dance mixshows are very popular on the weekends at CHR/Pop stations like Y-100 Miami (House/Trance till 4 AM on both Friday and Saturday nights) Q-100 Atlanta, 93.3 FLZ Tampa (from 7 PM till 3 AM on Saturdays, and from 10-2 on Fridays, with Open House Party on Sunday nights), Kiss 108 Boston, 106.1 BLI Long Island, K-104 Poughkeepsie, Kiss 95.7 Hartford, Mix 96 Montreal, 94.7 Hits FM Montreal, Z-103.5 Toronto, 102.7 KIIS-FM L.A., Z-95.3 and 94.5 the Beat Vancouver, Wow 92.7 Key West, 107.9 The End Sacramento, Channel 933 San Diego, Mix 93.3 Kansas City, 94.9 ZHT Salt Lake City, the Energie stations in Quebec (including Montreal, Quebec City, and Ottawa), FM 107.1 CIBM Quebec City, Q-107.5 Memphis, B-103.9 Ft. Myers, 104.5 SNX Grand Rapids, Hot 103 Winnipeg, 95 SX Charleston, Bob 93.3 Greenville (North Carolina), Wuhu 107 Bowling Green (Kentucky), Magic 98.5 Cookeville (TN), 106.9 Kicks FM Cookeville, Z-103.5 Halifax, 107.5 The River Nashville, Q-97.9 Portland (Maine), WBNQ 101.5 Bloomington (Illinois), Mix 96.1 San Antonio, U-93 South Bend, 96.5 WAZY Lafayette,
All these stations have Dance mixshows that DON'T focus on Hip Hop hits, but rather real Dance.
Some CHRs run syndicated/taped mixshows like these
http://www.djstickyboots.com/mixshow.htm

Don't even get me started about CHRs outside the U.S. and Canada. Practically every CHR in Europe hosts good Dance mixshows on the weekends. There's no reason why a CHR in New York can't put this on. Z-100 can prolly get away with a good Dance mixshow every night of the week after 10 PM, or at least do something similar to Y-100 Miami which has mixshows Wednesday-Saturday.

They do this just to piss people off. A late night weekend mixshow can't possible hurt their precious women of 25-50 audience. Its very sad to see a New York market having no good mixshows on. KTU has Johnny Budz mixing from 10pm to 2am Saturday Nights and Riddler Friday nights from 10pm to 2am. I heard everything from currents to freestyle and 90's dance in the mix. Fine for a small market weekend mixshow but not hip for New York on a Saturday night.

The KTU Dance Factory will be missed.

and I blame it all on one woman.. Whoopie. She caused all this in the first place. Theres was nothing bad about KTU's ratings and they sure as hell aint getting better since she got on board.

Thats exactly what I thought of when I turned to KTU on Saturday around 2 am, only to hear the latin dance track "I Like it Like that"... I said to myself "which 45 year old lady is up right now listening to this?"

CHRles...

K-104 (Poughkeepsie) would be the choice for the area not being served by Party 105.3. Problem though is the fact that once you get below Manhattan and head out towards Brooklyn and points east, you lose the station. And since Power 105.3 has a weak signal to begin with, Brooklyn, southern Nassau County, Central NJ & Staten Island are stuck with nothing.

Both KTU and Z100 still run Mixshows on Friday and Saturday nights. KTU has cutback on the amount and type of mixshows that they do on the weekends but there are still outlets there, for now.

You won't find any progressive mixshows on either station as that's no longer what these stations are about. Maybe some of the NY area non-com's can pick up the slack.

KTU is dead. Do not kid yourself.

We have reached the moment where we have to agree that the once mighty KTU is dead to its fans. We need to walk away from this rotting corpse and look to other sources for Dance. Z100 is the most likely candidate because at this time Pop is the most likely, though temporary, home of Dance.

Goodbye KTU. When you were good, YOU WERE GOOD.

I predicted this day, three years ago, when "KTU playing nothing but "It's Raining Men" has finally come to pass, due to the increasingly non engaging , circle jerk nature of the diva dance scene, which set sail on the Titanic a year or two ago, and has finally reached it's destination...
hate to say it, but...
I TOLD YA SO!

And that's why we exist and doing our DAMNDEST to try to do something. Granted, it is NOT going to be an easy task but if something is worth all of your heart, then you go for it!

To dance fans, yes, KTU IS dead. All that means is that we just have to seek out another outlet. In the process, we don't burn our bridges with Clear Channel or the new owner since one never knows what can happen.

Was listening in to Jagger tonight... I was pleasantly suprised to actually here songs from this year from Cascada, Lucas P and DHT (I Go Crazy)... could it be with the death of Mix 102.7 as a Classic Dance Station we'll see some of the newer popular dance songs sneak onto The Beat of New York, even if dayparted to night?

Cascada & Lucas were on the air at KTU before the music adjustment and since both saw time on Z100 it's no real suprise that they remained on as research is very good on them. DHT was added after having some inital success on Z as well.

I don't believe you'll be seeing KTU adding any new out of the box dance music for a good while. They will most likely remain very cautious with any music they add.

While KTU lays dormant I wonder how Beatstock a leading Dance Concert presented by KTU will do. Plus i wonder what acts they will have. They usually have a few rarer dance acts and plenty of the new dance artists. I go every year so I purchased my tickets the first day they went on sale but I am thinking I might have made a poor decission.

mixshows are a cornerstone of Rhythmic radio you can't just kill them off...can you?

You cannot live without the club mixshows the audience would love to hear. Dance isnt dying, it's the programming that's dying because of all the stupidy.

Well the station is no longer a dance station and the few mix shows they have play pop music. We need a true dance station back in NY.
