Folks, since this year that the KTU is now playing the best of Rhythmic AC of the '80s, '90s and today with no '70s, because a lot of people doesn't want to play the '70s because the '70s music are already died, so Rhythmic AC of the '80s, '90s and today are THE BEST!

That's funny today in the afternoon I happen to scan the dial parking at 103.5 FM's WKTU to catch a big 1976 hit by Abba's Dancing Queen...how do you explain this if they aren't playing the 70s ?

I caught them playing "If You Leave" by OMD this evening at around 7:30 or so. That's a song that I'd have expected to hear on Jack FM or PLJ or the old 'LIR, but I can't recall ever hearing it on KTU.

MikeN...ooops I mean Neo...OMD's If you leave was played a bunch on the old Hot97 and Power 106 in LA when they were Top40/dance back in the day. The song justs tests like a monster for most Hot AC's and has for years.

The slight jab was uncalled for.

And yes, I know about OMD's old airplay on the likes of the original Hot 97. However, since then, the song has pretty much only been aired by Hot AC's like WPLJ (and not in very heavy rotation), and stations like Jack FM and WLIR, whereas KTU seems to have focused more on disco and freestyle (Donna Summer, Cover Girls) as well as pop ballads (80's Madonna) as far as stuff from the 80s for the most part. I can't recall them playing "If You Leave" and I had to look twice today to make sure the radio was tuned to 103.5 when I heard it.

I too have heard OMD / If You Leave a few times on KTU in addition to When In Rome / The Promise, No Doubt's cover of It's My Life and Duran Duran / Hungry Like A Wolf over the past week or so.

Not sure if this is subject of another thread, but I also noticed Whoopi has been removed from the KTU website, KTU removed from the affliate link on Whoopi's site and Paul Cubby Bryant is listed as "weekends" on the KTU air staff page.

I think Whoopi was on KTU yesterday-- tuesday. If she's gone I suppose she'll say its due to her work load at ABC-Tv--The View --and her acting / comedy career-- which has not been great in recent years. People doing well in comedy/acting/tv-- don't bother with radio generally!

I just heard on the CW11 Morning News that Whoopi's been cancelled. The memo's went out to KTU staffers..

KTU has sucked since they canned Baltazar and Goumba's morning show.. KTU's sucked since they tried to cram the 'movin' format down Vic Latino's throat.. driving him out of there.. KTU sucked since they canned Broadway Bill Lee.. Actually, you know what.. come to think of it.. Clear Channel f*cks everything up.

"If You Leave", like the Duran Duran/Kajagoogoo/Go-Go's/Romeo Void type, is something that you'd expect to hear on alternative rockers like WFNX near Boston. If WBCN was alt-rock, they'd be playing this instead of Led Zeppelin, which has NOTHING to do with new wave, and therefore has nothing to do with alternative rock.

Either way, that's NOT the 'KTU that I remember. :( If Boston's Star (WQSX) had survived though, I think that they'd be headed in a rock direction (a la WBMX/Mix 98-5) by now.

they should go all 70s dance, with jingles, production, etc similiar to the revived CBS FM; that's the type of radio NY still loves

They could get some late-70s WABC jingle resings. I'd listen just for that. But I don't know if such a format would really be viable.

Is it just me, or is KTU in its current form basically a clone of the failed Mix 102.7?

I havent tuned into KTU since Vic Latino left.. that was the nail in the coffin for any hope us dance fans had of any real dance music being aired on that station. They give dance a bad name... they should just flip to another format or call themselves something else than a "dance" station.

WKTU is now "Rhythmic AC" according to R&R/Arbitron. That's the same format tag as ex-WNEW's "Mix 102.7" had in its second version.

I also noticed that WPAT-FM is now "Latin Pop" and WCAA is now "Latin Rhythm". Those seem to be new format identifiers.

Those format names are R&R creations for the most part. Arbitron does not use the term "Latin" for any format. You can call a format anything you want... but most of these names are never given on the air so they are only used so trades can simply give a general idea of a station format.

WKTU has been Rhythmic AC in Arbitron going back a year. WCAA is Latino Urban, and WPAT is Spanish Contemporary. Arbitron has a reduced and restricted number of format names... the press is free to make up all the names it wants.
