KTU Question

Hi all, just wondering, does KTu still play Kim Sozzi - How did you know? Or is that out the door as well. Last time i was in the city i didn't even turn them on, spent most of my time listening to 97.1 and 95.5. thanks.

Wow - I just realized that when I was up in Manhattan last month I did not listen to KTU. That is a first. Thinking back, I listened to Hot 97 until I got into Westchester and switched to 107.1 WXPK. This coming from a guy who would practically strangle people in order to get me tapes of the old KTU.

I'm a huge KTU fan.. but its getting lame... The new station voice is terrible and the quality of the sweepers is bad, there is no flow to them, the guys voice doesn't pop, the seques are bad... one song often ends, then the sweeper and then the next song.. no overlap in a lot... the quality is gone.

I counted deadair three times in the 7 o'clock hour last night alone and this whole concept of lots of talk and topic of the hour is so smalltown and kills any "beat" still left. Oh and my biggest pet peeve... the "Hi Low" game. Can we say the ultimate suburban white soccer mom A/C radio game. I couldn't believe the first time I heard it on ktu.

okay I'm done ranting... sorry... one positive... I heard a song being announced as "new" overnight last night that peeked my interest... not sure what, as I was pulling into my parking garage and lost the signal soon after.

That's exactly what they are hoping you'll say. It's the only demo they care about at this point. ;)

Yeah well... considering this is NYC and the population is a lot more diverse than a bunch of white soccer mom's I guess thats pretty simplistic... and even if we were to say they were targeting the overactive moms... Habits and likes of urban mom's are different than that of Suburban mom's... They don't sit on the back of an open minivan for hours on the end... on the edge of a Walmart parking lot sipping homemade lemonade and coffee, while watching their kids run around a big vast park and sports complex playing the sport of the day. Thats not "customized for the greatest city in the world." This is New York, show some dang creativity... and if they can't, they don't deserve to be here!

Couldn't have said it any better. Great point, i think radio is overall a big YAWN in the big apple. The only exception, which is just my opinion, is PLJ. They seem to be trying to add variety to the station. Other than that is seems to be, eh. No creativity.

Dont strangle anyone!

I have the following airchecks on my PC. (All recorded to MiniDisc from a Walkman in midtown - the quality is fine)

Thursday 17th March 2005 - 90 Minutes - Little C doing the Top 8 at 8 - 63MB - 96k MP3 Mono.
Friday 18th March 2005 - 162 Minutes - 5:10pm onwards - Broadway Bill then Vic Latino(?) - 114MB - 96k MP3 Mono
Thursday 16th March 2006 - 162 minutes - 3pm(ish) onwards - Broadway Bill - 142MB - 128k VBR MP3 Stereo
Saturday 18th March 2006 - 162 minutes - 6pm onwards - Saturday Night mixshow stuff - 138MB - 128k VBR Stereo

I might have a Baltazar breakfast from 2004 on MD somewhere as well

With extremely rare exceptions, "Soccer Moms" (66% of which fall into the 35-54 age range) do not care about NEW dance music. They, by far, listen to Soft Rock and Adult Contemporary style stations.

Next time you are in a bar, look for the table of soccer moms that got babysitters that night. Notice what they play on the jukebox!

It's going to be "I Will Survive" followed by "Ring My Bell". Followed by "I Will Survive".

Then, thank God there is liquor nearby. ;D

Yes, liquor and Gil. Sorry, inside joke that Pete will get. ;)
