KTU tweaks

As they appear to be moving towards this Movin' format and after reading some posts, I can only wonder if KTU and WNEW will continue to stay as they are for the long run.
Might current dance fans be better off putting their energy into MIX (Tony) as KTU has been and appears to be even more of a lost cause?

Is this current tweak really giving listeners what they want or is it, as John Parker says to protect the queen, WLTW?

Would NYC. radio be much better/diverse if each company were only allowed to own 1 station in this market? I have no doubt it would be. Like every other business in this country, radio has completely fallen into a chain, ie. generic, mass produced schlop that basically doesn't really cater to the interest or musical tastes of anyone beyond what the execs. believe to be money making formats. Radio used to serve the public interest. The only station that truly does that now are non commercial stations like WNYC.

This is progression, I guess and you can't stop it. Fortunately along with this progress come other options, MP3 players, satellite radio, specifically programmed for each niche. The only difference being is that nothing is local and to hear your niche station you have to tune into something being programmed in Washington, DC for example but I guess that's no different to walking the streets in city after city in this country and seeing the same Starbucks and Banana Republic on street corner after street corner.
BORING!
Too bad radio fell prisoner to it!

At this point Jeffrey, we are just trying to gain momentum for getting more members into the coalition. We have a lot of radio professionals and artists on board as well as dance music fans so in that regard, the dance music community is hopping on board.

Whatever had happened with 'KTU and how Mix 102.7 is being run is NO FAULT of the staff that is already there. I am definitely NOT blaming Jeff Z. on this, nor am I blaming Rick Martini at Mix. Whatever has happened all comes from "corporate". And we are like the "Davies" fighting the "Goliaths" in this. Deregulation caused what is radio today. John Parker is probably right about CC protecting 'LTW. So you implode the currents of a dance station to do this..to make a rhythmic "soundalike"....what is wrong with that logic???

We are just getting ready for the next move. And should something come up unexpectedly, we are already there and established. We are certainly NOT going to let radio "Jack" us around out of nowhere.

I don't fault the PD's at all nor do I fault the on air talent. They are the puppets of the execs.!
I actually don't fault anyone for trying to make a buck.
I'm just sad that radio is "movin" in the direction of everything else in corporate america.

Jeffrey, regarding the playlist...I tuned in to Vic Latino's show yesterday with Johnny Budz remixing. BOTH of these guys are amazing talents and it sucks that they are being held back with the new format, in terms of what they can do.

I just doesnt sound right when Vic Latino is hosting and he goes from Prince "1999" into "Play that funky music, white boy". He's sort of like the voice of the younger generation on that station and it just doesnt fit.

Nor does it sound right having Sexy Back by Justin Timberlake followed by Staying Alive by the Bee Gees although I suppose KTU's demographic of Jersey housewives may not mind.
It's just a shame the station serves NYC. undisputably the most current dance friendly market in the country.

does KTU's Movin to the Mix leave a hole between z-100 and them for someone to fill? i heard that CD 101.9 was looking to go Movin; also like their sister country station in LA had. The LA station did better than CD did..so what's up here? :-X

I thought KLZA, LA didn't pull in more than 2.0. I also believe WQCD-NY bills more KZLA did.
I do think CD101.9 might flip at somepoint since SJ. seems to be a dying format but are you saying they should go rhythmic ac?
I don't believe there are, what the execs. consider to be any more money making formats left to fill in NYC. Another urban might bill but WQCD/Emmis would be up against themselves then with HOT 97.
....what if they flipped to something slightly more risky?
ahhh...I was joking.... Only cookie cutter safe nowadays!

WQCD Could go Chr/pop and go against Z100

Active Rock or Alternative done the right way. Emmis runs a decent Alternative (Q-101, I believe) in Chicago, and while it's not the most incredible station, it's still way better than CBS/Infinity and their half-assed attempt at a Rock/Alternative station as K-Rock. Come on, Emmis, give it a shot!

I still say Movin is basically what KTU has been for the last two years with classics to some currents... thats the movin format, thats KTU!

If these Movin' stations add currents and dance remixes of pop songs than they would be like WKTU. I'd like you to name what currents these Movin' stations play that are dance.

Other than urban that may be an option but CHR is geared more towards females thus making yet more competition for the same demographic as KTU, MIX and Z100. I don't think it would happen for that reason.

KTU was more of a dance friendly CHR with some classic dance thrown in. I think MIX fits the movin' format description. With KTU's "move", we now have 2.
Lucky us! ::)

Thats why Dance music fans, producers, artists, club goers must support The Metro New York Dance Radio Coalition.
