KTU

How about country, some form of oldies/classic hits, some form of modern rock, some form of AC.

WLTW numbers are way too high not to have competition.

I've heard a rumor (second hand) that a country station was "in the works" for the immediate NYC area....couldn't tell you which station though. Maybe KTU? Who knows, since this rumor has circulated in the past.

A Country format would kick ass in NYC. Believe me, there are more than enough female listeners who really dig country. It's never going to happen though, as the gods of Madison Avenue have spoken. To me, it has always been a no-brainer. Pick up country and run the only game in town. In a city full of hip-hop, spanish, hot AC and rap stations, country could reap some serious cash.

Oh well.

103.5 and 106.7 are both owned by Clear Channel, so they won't be competing with themselves.

The rumor is an upbeat/Hot AC format targeting women.

KTU flipping to an "upbeat" Hot AC format targeting women makes no sense. If you think about it, that is exactly what Lite FM is...a female-targeted AC/Hot AC station spinning a targeted playlist and with programming that appeals to women. If this happens, KTU and Lite FM will pretty much directly compete with eachother. Again, the rumor is just that...a rumor. I say all this because both Lite and KTU are owned by Clear Channel.

If KTU flips to this upbeat Hot AC format, then Lite FM can become, well, lite again!

That's my theory.

it's so frustrating to read about the flipping rumors, not because of *another* flip, but because unlike country/alt rock/FM talk/whatever, Dance easily could work in NY, but KTU hasnt shot themselves in the foot, no they've blown their foot off and taken the ankle with it. It almost makes you want to think they've done it on purpose. I remember loving KTU, now I cant listen for 5 minutes before getting frustrated. So if they flip, they can look in the mirror.

KTU PD Jeff Z released a statement this week that there will NOT be a format change. Each market carrying Whoopie will pick their own music format. And P.S. If Country would work in NY, there would be a Country station. Not 2 dance or Jack FM . It's not yet proven to be a a financially sound demo.

I'd rather see KTU turn into Sunny 103.5 with the greatest hits of the 60s, 70s and 80s with some of the former cbsfm jocks including ziggy pelzer for all liner work for the station. Now this format would do good in nyc considering there is no more oldies and that is a format people want back bad. I can't see KTU going country again like they were before they were KTU or competing with Lite fm owned by the same people cc.

I vote for KTU to become a true Dance station as well, just like the old Hot 97. NYC has always been the place to hear it all in the clubs. KTU has always done an ok job...but seriously, how many times do you really need to hear "It's Raining Men" anymore. XM and Sirius do really great jobs of Dance hits stations.

Now reality....that format has a narrow target and an even smaller chance of billing anything near what it takes to run a station in NYC. Therefore, I don't see Dance Hits coming to NYC radio anytime soon, except maybe on a Digital freq.

your average radio listener would rather hear "it's raining men' than ANY of the diva records and 80s Top 40 retreads currently clogging the arteries of current dance.....

I really like the dance stations in phoenix and sanfrancisco. They said the one in phoenix wouldn't last and it has been around for 3 plus years.GO figure...

Whoopi's new show would provide a heavy weight anchor that will drain the ratings at KTU. Jeff Z just doesnt understand that Clear Channel doesnt know how to program KTU.

In a sense im sure Jeff Z has his hands tied by clear channell but maybe he doenst have the guts to "Dare To Dance!"

Funny thing, I was just listening to KTU and there's a promo for the station that says something like "Don't be afraid to get up and dance!" and then went right into a love song. It happened sometime between 10 and 11 AM and just proves they are not paying attention over there. The devil is in the details.
