KTVK 3.2 and 3.3 Useless

Where on the internet is there current local news? azcentral.com is often not updated unless there is breaking news (and without clicking on all the links, you have no idea if the story was posted at 3am or 3pm). On the weekends, the television stations don't actively update their sites unless the sky is falling.

GMAZ has a lot of informational content and interviews as well. I love the Garden Guy's tips, Dr. Art Mollen's health-related news, and Debbie from Home Depot often has interesting tips. It's not all about "breaking news". Plus, to me, watching GMAZ is actually enjoyable.

For national and international stories, I agree that the internet is great source. CNN, CNN.com, and CBSN are all really good sources as well.

I guess things might be a bit different in the big city but here in Prescott we turn to the local
newspaper online as well as a couple of the AM radio stations which carry continuous updates
and live, local, regional and national breaking news.......

If I am interested in local news consisting of car wrecks, house fires and Circle K holdups I can always turn to one of the TV stations online sites.

When a Circle K clerk is killed, that IS news. And, from what I heard, they caught the guy because they showed his picture on TV news. Not a matter to joke about or be sarcastic about.

I did not quote the killing of the Circle K clerk. You did. I also did not joke about the killing. I specifically said "Circle K hold ups" which are far more common than a clerk getting killed. My intent, for those hard of understanding, is that local news is not much more than fires, wrecks and crime of various kinds (Arias, Janice, Sheriff Joe). Yes, these stories are technically news but they are not the ONLY news. I would have liked to understand SRP's recent tariff hike but not one story I saw reported the facts accurately. I would like to know about collusion and crime in the bowels in our state house and senate but all we get are meaningless sound bites. I would like to know how the various animal shelters are doing instead of a cutsey story about llamas running wild through Sun City. I don't need the same stories regurgitated endlessly. I could go on and on but I am sure you now get the idea.

Landtuna -- You can be sarcastic about local news (which you were upthread and have been in general about this particular topic) and paint auto accidents, fires, and holdups with a broad brush. However, my point was that SOME Circle K holdups are newsworthy (i.e. where the clerk was killed), SOME car wrecks are newsworthy (i.e. the plethora of wrong way drivers that we seem to have around here), SOME fires are newsworthy (i.e. where several people or fighfighters were killed).

While some poster have been dense, most understand the importance of local news. It is not necessarily just the summary of the "headline" news, but it is the information given. Actually, the one thing about weekend GMAZ is that the summary of "headline" news is rather brief which makes it easier to watch later in the day.

There are always exceptions to the mundane and repetitious events reported on our local news. I am not talking about those. I am talking about the endless video's of house fires which usually take place in the middle of the night and which show nothing of importance to the audience. Your example of wrong way collisions is a good one - except that I know of no follow up being reported on any of them. The collision itself is a member of the "if it bleeds..." genre. The natural follow up would be a story on what DOT or our local law enforcement agencies are doing about it. I've seen nothing in that regard.

I once was very interested in becoming a journalism professional and learned that WHAT, WHEN and HOW were the fundamental components of a story. All too often, some would say regularly, the only thing reported is WHAT. Television, being a visual medium, is largely responsible for that. It's like Headline News on a diet.
