KTVK New Director Announced

Belo has announced that longtime WWL-TV news director Sandy Breland will take over the same role at KTVK in Phoenix, replacing Scott Diener.

Isn't combining the words "KTVK" and "news" somewhat of an oxymoron nowadays? ;D

Yeah, and thank goodness Sandy is a woman -- I was afraid they might actually hire a man over there at 3!

Seriously, I've heard good things about her and she comes from a well-respected, winner station in NOLA. We'll see, but she just might be what the Doctor ordered. (er-- you and Nurse Jeff are still consulting with them, right Dr. Akbar?) ;D

Keith you're right. And if you notice, subconsciously I only typed "new" in the title and not "news"

New KTVK ND

FYI.
The post below is from TVSpy regarding Sandy Breland, the newly named ND at 3. A number of people she worked with in NOLA at WWL have posted with similar sentiments. Sandy evidently made quite an impression on them.

You are lucky to have her...

I have been fortunate to have known Sandy Breland for the past 20 years...and for the past 12 years, she's been my boss...but I have always considered her to be a friend first.

You won't find a more professional, caring, and fair leader for a newsroom. Sandy has worked her way up through the ranks...first in radio news, then as a producer (many years ago, she would go out on the streets with photogs on her own time at night to learn the ropes in the field), assignment editor (the best I've ever seen), then news director...she has a keen news sense, and is in touch with the viewers and her staff.

I hope those of you who work at KTVK will give Sandy a chance...she lead us through the worst of times down here during Katrina, but she has always been a great boss.
She will treat you fairly and expect the best from you...but never forget that she is no push-over.

A lot has been said here about the "culture" at KTVK...Sandy understands the importance of that distinctiveness of a station...WWL has had it's own culture of success through strong journalism and sensitive reporting for four decades now, and Sandy has had a lot to do with that.

I can tell you that Sandy is very excited about her new challenge...I learned a long time ago to NEVER underestimate her...she can climb any mountain she chooses, and you should consider yourselves lucky to have her on your team.

Nah...they were looking for bigger boobs than us! ;)

The Nurse and I've been a little pre-occupied with TMISU's new FM station in Glendale. Perhaps our friends in Hi~Def~land can give us the skinny on the new playpal of Ron & Rick at FOXy10. We kinda lost track of what really happened with Jenn Burgess and are anxiously awaiting another snappy morning jingle from the creative types on Washington St. Not since Olga Villaverde have we had so much interest in mourning TV. ::)
