KTVT/11 Audio Issues

Anybody else notice a difference in audio levels between programming and commercials on KTVT/11 (DFW)? It's quite annoying when I'm trying to watch "Wheel Of Fortune" and suddenly a spot comes blasting out of the speakers. Then when I turn it down, Sajak, White and Co. are faintly heard.

To the engineering dept. at CBS 11: Ever heard of a VU meter?

Channel 2's stereo network audio is about 10 db below their local audio levels (which is comparable to the other stations in town). It's been this way for almost a week. If you turn up the audio on a network show so you can hear it, you get BLASTED whn a local spot or promo comes on! I called their Master Control on Wednesday evening and the operator there confirmed it on his modulation monitor (He said he didn't know about it), yet last night it was STILL screwed up!

If this is the kind of technical quality CBS tolerates in market #2, I'd hate to see what their station in market 200 looks/sounds like!
I read this awhile ago in the L.A. forum. Seems like it's group-wide! First all the lay-offs at the local news level (but keeping Katie Couric), then the problem above, and now this. I guess you're the station in market 200! ;) I wanted Belo to sell KHOU-TV to CBS, but on second thought...

Ch 11.1 seems to be way too loud sometimes, and low others. The other day there must have been 10 dB difference between Ch 11.1 and 13.1. I've read there is "Dolby Volume" in the DTV standard that's supposed to control this. Is this true?

Congress could pass a law, H.R.6209 the Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation Act, or "CALM", that might actuslly address this issue.

Don't give Congress any ideas right now. I will say nothing else lest this post get deleted for political content.

A side note: KTXA/21, which is a KTVT LMA station, does not have the same audio problem.

For some time 21 was sending "KXTA" rather than KTXA as their PSIP ID. I sent them an email a month or so ago and they fixed their typo. Give em time maybe they will figure out the audio too.
